I have a Celeron 366 on an ABIT 370 SP slotket, that I have run at 550mhz on an ABIT BH-6 MoBo (voltage bumped from 2.05 to 2.20v), with no problems, for well over a year. This system is a Windows 98 SE system, and I did all of the OS and Software installs with the CPU at 550mhz.
I am now working on a friend's computer that has a PC-Chips M729 MoBo with the BXCel 66/100 chipset, and I just upgraded the BIOS to the 990224s.rom BIOS version. I am using this CPU on this board and had to raise the voltage through the Slotket as there is no voltage control on this board. I have also put in a GeForce 2 GTS V video card.
I have been able to install and run Win98SE, Drivers, and Software with no problems. Now I am trying to set it up as a Win2k system, and with the voltage at 2.20, I can get Win2k to install fine, but I run into problems with video drivers for Gf2 GTS V. When I use the EXE style drivers that you have to actually run the Install process on, the install goes fine, but upon reboot, the screen comes up in color but all garbled. If I use the INF style drivers, that you can install through the Driver Upgrade process, there seems to be no problem.
OK, I have never dealt with an ALi chipset before, and with all of the details of this system on the table: Am I dealing with an Over clocking issue, or am I dealing with a Driver incompatibility with the BXCel chipset?
Again, the system is as follows:
CPU: Celeron 366 at 550 (on ABIT 370SP slotket)
Voltage: 2.20 (set on slotket)
Motherboard: PC-Chips M729
Chip Set: ALi BXCel (66/100)
BIOS: 990224s.rom
Video Card: GeForce2 GTS V
