I just upgraded from my PIII 866 to an Athlon 1.2 266.

I am now looking at upgrading my Geforce 1 DDR.

The games I play the most are sports games and RTS. Some DiabloII and EverCrack(Everquest), Not much First Person Shooters. I have a 19" monitor and play at 1024 res. or 1280.

Seeing its the last day for the Dell deal, I was thinking of getting an Elsa 920 for about $299, but I also saw the MSI GF2Pro for ~$150.

I know I will be getting a new card in a year or so.

Is the Geforce3 honestly worth the extra $150, or should I just go with the GF2Pro.

Is there any chance my GF1 DDR will be able to handle these games until the end of the year?

Thanks!

Well I have a 64MB MSI GeForce 2 Pro and while it kicks some SERIOUS ass in QIII, the 2D can use some work. I switch between my machine (GF2 Pro) and my server (Matrox G200), and the MSI GF2 Pro's 2D looks considerably worse than the Matrox. I'm REALLY thinking about getting a GF3 or a Radeon VIVO for the 2D. The GF3 is great at 3D gaming but also has nice 2D. If you don't have the money, A Radeon VIVO might do you nicely, especially for the games you play. The Radeon will also be easy on your eyes when doing regular work since the 2D is VERY nice. If you want the best of both world (3D power AND crisp 2D), I'd get a GF3 if you have the money. ;)

I've tried the Tornados series of Innovision....I used 3 cards in just few months.I used gts 32mb,pro64 and ultra.A pro 64 DDR is enough for everything....the one I used comes with EliteMT ddr memory with 5.0ans works perfectly on my Alice and NOLF.If to compare in price,a Pro 64MB is much cheaper than GeF3.If u're not aiming for the best and wanna save a bit, geforce 2 pro is the best.A Geforce 3 will probably cost u 300-400 and I estimated the price wun get down until all the manufacturer produce their own cards and make comparison in every aspect including price! As for me,I wun buy GeF3 and Pro and I'll just get an Ultra. This is the best and the top of the line in GF2 family generate 485Mhz.I changed 3 cards and finally use Ultra coz there's some error while I play games and I thought that was the video card problem.I'm impress by its performance and great value coz I pay only 180 for a brand new Ultra from my fren who sell computer's stuff.Furthermore,Ultra can beat the GF3 in fps and some other aspect.

If they are the only sort of game that you are playing, then I'd call you silly to upgrade. Your current card is more than capable of playing just about any RTS that you could throw at it. If you were going to play the latest and greatest FPS, thewn my answer would be different.
So I say stay as you are for now.

A DDR is still a pretty good card. You probably could squeeze another 6 months or so out of it until a GF3 is down in price a lot more. Especially for the games you are playing.

I'd wait.

ya your ddr is not bad and uless you want higer fps and or higher res, just stick with what you have. however, if you do want more get the gefoce3 or a radeon, i realy recomend you stay away from the geforce2 baised on your gameing prefrance and its lack of 3d quality. your comment "Is there any chance my GF1 DDR will be able to handle these games until the end of the year?" seems a little odd, sure your card will handle those same games at the end of the year the same way it does now.

Sorry I meant Will the GF1 DDR be able to handle new games until the end of the year.

Or basically if I keep the GF1 DDR will I be able to play all the new games until the end of the year?

Thanks!

If you're not playing FPS games...then I think you'll be plenty fine for the rest of the year. In a situation like yours it's wise to wait.
