If you were any kind of a man, you would say no and let your gf go with her friends instead. That's of course, if you don't want to go.

If he were a real man, he'd go with her and her friends, then fuck 'em all afterwards.

The series is decent and pretty highly rated too. Suck it up and deal. You'll likely enjoy it.

Starting from the third one the movies are pretty decent. The first two are too...garish, I guess would be the best word...and the acting is pretty poor. From the third one on the movies get a lot darker and the actors improve all the time, obviously. Just go along to them, and watch them. And reserve judgment until you have actually seen more than a few minutes' worth of trailers.

My wife has dragged me to the hp movies and the twilight movies. While i'm not a fan, the harry potter ones were pretty decent. The twilight ones....sigh.

Number 6 was a bit disappointing but 3, 4 and 5 were all fairly good. The first 2 are more like childrens films though, they were done by Chris Columbus who did the home alone movies.

I loved all the books and can barely stomach any of the movies after the first one.

I never gave a flying fuck about HP. But it looks like I'm gonna get dragged in.

Well, it's not a chick flick at least. What should I know about? Isn't it crap? I sure as hell ain't watching all the movies.... maybe I'll just read movie wikis...

[edit]
Surprisingly all 6 HP movies got a fresh rating at RT... all 80%+. Interesting.

BS. You don't have a gf.

Yes, being a man means fucking anything that moves. </sarcasm>. My point was if you don't want to go, you shouldn't have to. There's a fine line between a compromise and emotional blackmail/manipulation. "Well if you loved me you would go with me to see the movie!". The gf has other people that can go with her. If you don't want to go, don't. It's that simple.

I always find it funny how a forum full of nerds tries so hard to act hyper-manly. Don't discount something until you give it a shot. I picked up the 1st book last year to read on a flight as I wanted something simple, and I ended up loving it and read all 7 in about a month. The later stories also get more violent, and part 2 of the 7th movie should be the most action oriented of the 8 movies. If you're into fantasy genre at all, like LotR, the books and movies aren't half bad ... some are even good. If you wanna have some idea of what's going on you should consider at least watching from the 4th movie on, or as you said really reading the wikis will give you a considerable amount of information.

And hey, the guy that plays the sparkly vampire from Twilight is killed in the 4th HP movie, so there's that.

I think it's about wizards, kids, and flying on broomsticks or something. I think there is a guy with a giant beard in it named gargamel or dumblemel or something. And also a guy that....according to the previews...doesn't have a nose or something? I think Gandalf is in it too, not sure.
