GF wants a stun-gun type thing for self protection

There's been a fair number of robberies & other attempted mischief around campus lately, and she has to walk to her car later in the evening two nights a week. I doubt she'll actually end up getting one, but what are everyone's thoughts on stungun/taser type dealios or other devices for self protection (Don't think she'll go for mace, LOL)

The downside of a stungun IMO is that the attackers must be too close to you before you can use it. I would prefer a self defense weapon were an attacker did not have the oppurtunity to get that close to my wife. So I would suggest pepper spray or a tazer. The tazer is gonna cost more of course. Or you could just go for a gun if she is up for that.

Good point. Stungun was in her mind because the latest crime was an attempted car jacking; guy tried to get in her car and as the girl drove off another person shot out her back window :Q

Oh believe you me something is going to be done. I've learned by now that if she's is truly concerned about something, it is for good reason.

I would say no to pepper spray. I've seen too many episodes of cops where people are phased, but they still keep going. It might serve to piss them off enough to make them hurt you, epscially if you miss. A taser would be a better option and more of a threat imho. A escorte from campus security would be the best option.

Or you could get her to train bjj, armbar from the guard for the win!

I bought one for myself when I was in college, but it was mostly to play with. I thought about getting one for my wife, but in the back of my mind all I could think of was what if she tried to use it in a violent situation, lost control of it, and the attacker used it on her.
