My gf and i have been "breaking" since sunday night when we were first going to break up, especially with her going away to school two hours away in a couple of weeks. BUT...we decided to "break" in spite of the great times we had when we were together. She said we were moving too fast, so here i am now. Anyways, a new girl's at work...and she asked me if i wanted to go out tomorrow night and get some dinner. She's extremely attractive (NO PICS YET!!!!), so i naturally said yes. I made no mention of my *gf* or whatever the hell she is right now b/c i didn't see it to be important.

Soo...I called up my *gf* and asked how she was seeing as i hadn't talked to her yesterday. After the small talk, i flat out asked the rules of this "break" thing so i knew which boundaries not to cross as i valued what we had/have. She asked what i wanted, but i put it back on her and made her say whatever. She told me that she thinks it should be a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. So...i told her i was going out this weekend with the new girl and she immediately told me that she's been seeing somebody too. It hasn't even been a week that we've been split up and she's supposedly already seeing somebody? I know i'd be a hypocrite seeing as i'm doing the same thing, but i at least had the decency to let her know, be it her business or not. I'm not sure if she said that as some way of protecting herself, but it kinda hurt knowing that she got over me so quickly. She probably knew what she was doing by saying that, but she's going up to her apartment (two hours away up @ school) for the weekend to "catch up with old friends". Before we decided to break, she was telling me how much she was going to dread going back up to Western and that she felt like dropping out b/c of things that happened there. Is she playing games with me or was she cheating on me and fvcking with my head? I think i'm gonna break it off tonight, b/c if you remember the Friends epsiode where Ross banged some other chick while he and Rachel were on a break, she never let him hear the end of it. I don't want that and quite frankly, not sure how much i value my *gf's* friendship anymore...

help.

For once, I would have to concur. It sounds as if she knew exactly what she wanted when she and you decided to take a break. You're young, enjoy it.

I say good riddance. I don't know what good times you two had before, but it's clearly not the same anymore. You don't sound much for wanting to fight for her anyway... time to move on.

Don't waste your time or thoughts; move on. Keep the door open though, she could be good for a sportfvck later on. ;)

Usually "I want a break" = I've found another guy that I want to mess around with, but don't want to feel guilty about it. From experience, things hardly ever work out after that. I'd say enjoy your life and enjoy your freedom, and forget about your ex/gf.

From what I gather, it *seems* like you calling her in an effort to make her jealous. I also think she made up the "new guy" in order to make you jealous. That's my view of things, but don't take it personally if I'm wrong. :)

no, not at all. I told her as soon as she decided we needed a break that i was an "all or none" kinda guy. I have never done one of these "breaks" and wasn't sure of the rules. I didn't want to get caught with my pants down. So maybe i thought about making her a teeny bit jealous...is that so wrong?

She wanted the break because she was already seeing someone or had someone in mind.

A chick saying she wants to go on a break = she found a nice piece of @$$ she'd like to tap. It's a way for her to justify cheating on you by doing it within "the rules". Once she's done with her boytoy she has her solid bf she runs back to and says "break over". Dump her and move on with that new chick from work

Only once has this not been the case for me... of course, she was needy and we ended up getting back together the next day. :)

Screw her (not literally), anyone who breaks up to a song doesn't seem like someone with great mental capacity. Plus, Girl #2 is just having dinner with you, it's not like you did her up the butt or anything. How old is she?

girl #2 is twenty as well. She's incredibly attractive, tired of dating the same weed smoking losers, socially drinks, enjoys a good party, kinda-air-headish (READ: true blonde), and has a lot of hot friends!

I'm going to agree with everyone here and say that the ex-g/f really doesn't seem to have a lot going for her. She's not committed to you, and even seems somewhat ok with you going out with the new girl, given that she's got her own thing going on. Write her off or you will get hurt. It may feel bad now, but this new girl will make it feel a lot better before too long.
