GF Notebook Upgrade

Your first link doesn't bring up anything. Just write out the important system information.

If you already have a Core 2 Duo, don't bother upgrading. The only time you'll see a real difference is in synthetic benchmarks and SuperPi.
4GB of RAM is a waste of money and it is completely useless if you are using a 32-bit OS. You could go with 2 or 3 and not see any difference except a fatter wallet.
The hard drive upgrade is fine.

The burner may not be compatible with your chassis and your notebook might use a proprietary connector.

The network card - it's okay, but if you already have a wireless G card, you might want to hold off for now. N is still not widely used. Plus, you can always upgrade the internal card instead so you don't have anything sticking out of the side. By the way, that card will probably be incompatible since it is for CardBus slots. You'll need something that uses ExpressCard.

Sorry bout the link currect specs I am changing

YONAH, T2300E, 1.66, 2M
HARD DRIVE, 80G, 5.4K, Serial ATA
1gb ddr2 667mhz memory

I am planning to put in a 64bit os. I asked her about using vista but she said not yet. So ill put on xp x64 for her. I have all the drivers already so no worries there. She does have a wireless card already but shes been having alot of connection issues with it at college. So for now I put in another card I have an external one and shes hadnt had one complaint since. Yes she has a cardbus slot no expresscard. I picked that card because she can connect to my currently setup wireless n network and she has alot of movies on there and it will go alot faster. I know its draft but also thats the best wireless card I found with an xp64bit driver matter of fact a 64bit driver at all. Current internal wireless card I have seen were crappy or the same that she has so I didnt bother trying to do that.

Also here is a link from the dell site that shows a replacement part for her current optical drive. I based my selection on that this is also an ide drive and Ive looked at the service manual already on how to remove it seems pretty basic

This is for your gf's notebook? What is she doing that needs that much RAM? If anything, it looks like your wasting money on most of the upgrades. The burner and the hard drive are legitmate, as is the wireless card - but the RAM, the processor, and the OS would just be a waste of money unless she's pushing her computer to the max. Also, make sure you do not go with an 800MHz FSB if you do choose to upgrade the processor, as those are only for the 965 chipset.

No its a 667mhz cpu. I have xp x64 already for her to use. I have multiple oem copies unused. As with the ram the more the better shes wanted to do alot more with her compter but when she purchased it this is all she could afford. She wants to do a fair amount of encoding and photo and movie editing. So I figured since Im opening it up why not just get it all done now instead of going back and forth. She has a 945gm chipset. I cant do anything about the gma 950 graphics but everything thing else i can.

I know with some other 945 series laptops, there have been issues with 64-bit OSes detecting all the RAM, could be a BIOS issue. You should see if tehre are any complaints about the notebook over at the forums of NotebookReview.com before committing to 4GB. 3GB shouldn't be an issue.

There is a bios update I will apply that before I put on os. But other then that this is a worth while update isnt it? It increases the value of the notebook alot. I looked for notebooks that had a cpu that I plan to use and those are 2g and up. and thats not including a huge notebook hdd and max memory. so it would come out to alot more.

Well, one of the things she can do is disable the pagefile. I'm doing this on Vista HP w/2GB RAM and it really livened things up -- the more RAM the better!

Also, she said 'not yet' to Vista, and we all know what this means... 😀

I would have no problem putting vista on there but she doesnt want to go there yet. I mean all the drivers are out that I need so no worries there. But also if she doesnt know how to do something I don't want her to constantly keep calling me.
