GF FX Ultra :Dead

I already have a Delta 80mm 80cfm 52.5dba and 2 Delta 120mm 130cfm fans.
Also, has anyone here personally heard the fan on it?

7dB is noisy? Wow, you've got sharp ears!

2 PCI slots:
I find it hard to imagine that anyone could use all of their PCI slots. Besides, the first PCI slot usually has IRQ conflicts with AGP slot.

Rand does.

I personally have:
Sound card,
ethernet card,
USB 2.0
VD5 PCI
With the FX taking up 2 slots, I'll have to remove one of the cards, which I dun want to do.

Not all of the FX's are 7db. Only Gainward's are i believe. And your motherboard only had 4 pci slots?

I'm kind of surprised that the 9700 still has a higher memory bandwidth than the FX 19GB/s vs 16GB/s? Looks like NVIDIA is having problems living in a 0.13micron world.

I was in a utmost shock to hear that they will discontinue the ultra version. Why? Then wtf are they going to use to compete with the R350? All I heard that the next coming up chips are going to be based on geforcefx architecture in a value performance perspective.

I have not heard it personally, but here is a tape of the GFFX fan as 3DMark starts. Here is a Radeon 9700 with the same mic in the same position. The difference is not subtle to my ears!

I have not heard it personally, but here is a tape of the GFFX fan as 3DMark starts. Here is a Radeon 9700 with the same mic in the same position. The difference is not subtle to my ears!

Why are you trying to start a flame war?

The link you supplied for the GeforceFX was when the video card was at full load and the link to the Radeon 9700 was when it was idle. There is NO mp3 for the Radeon 9700 when it is at full load so any comparison is unfair.

The correct links are for both video cards are:-

GeforceFX booting up

That mic is probably right next to the video card. I am not saying that this thing is quiet, but I sill wouldn't be able to here it in my system. If all of your case fans are low speed panaflos then you might have a problem with video card noise, but otherwise it shouldn't be a big deal.

Besides, when your video card is at full load, aren't you usually playing a game with sound?

Don't know if it's dead or not. It's true, I would tend to believe it if Anand or Toms wrote up an article about it. Haven't seen anything yet.
Both cards (9700, GFFX) are faster than anything anybody needs right now anyway.
I'll just putt merrily along with my GFTi4600 and Radeon 9500 pro.

But do the Radeon's have variable speed fans? I know the 8500 doesn't, but not sure about the 9700 (though I've never heard that they do). If they don't, then the comparison IS valid, since the Radeon's noise would be the same regardless of load. At least the comparison to the "prototype", since Nvidia claimed the final units would be quieter.

No the 9700 Pro doesn't have a variable speed fan.

And my point still holds true.

looks like nvidia not only got 3dfx's engineers, but there bad luck as well ...... sort of like those cards that are super rare now...god what were they voodoo 5 6500 (4 vsa 100 chips) just ahuge monster of a card, the only ones that exist are engineering samples
