I've been asked to come over over X-Mass break and setup a wifi router at their house. Usually no problem, however, he is a doctor and uses VPN to getinto his corprate network. What do I need to be sensitive in doing this? He uses a ibm thinkpad that gets into his vpn, I just have to make sure I dont mess with how that works.

His home has a surewest fiber (cable) line in. Right now he just plugs into the modem.

What equipment do I need to think about? Do you need special VPN routers?

What do I need to make sure NOT to do?

What info can I arm myself with in advance?

i use nortel extranet to connect my laptop to my corperate network vpn. i can take it anywhere and connect... whether that be from home, an internet cafe, another corperate network, etc... as long as there is no firewall restricting me from sending outgoing extranet requests. but thats just the stuff i use... i dont know about your GF dad... i would think that if his laptop is equipped with some sort of vpn client, it was setup thinking that he would be traveling around and behind all sorts of different routers. u might want to ask him what he uses and cross check your set up with the vpn vendor.
