GF 6800NU vs ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

Still torn by these two BF deals.

Looks like lots of guys are ready for 6800NU, and 9800pro deal is seldom mentioned.

Also, ATI Radeon 9800 pro @ CC is 256-bit or not.

I'm sure the 9800 pro is 256-bit, otherwise its definitely quite cold. And if you can get the 6800 for $199, its definitely a much better deal than the 9800pro, especially when you throw in the possibility of unlocking the 4 pipes on the 6800. And the last time I checked, 8 more pipes for $50 wasn't too shabby.

wow maybe if you searched in the video forum you'd find about 100 posts regarding this... OR it would be a good place for the post in the first place.

Well, some people are pretty sh**ty on this board, but in general, the 6800 around 250 is a "better" buy than a 9800 for ~160.

But this is only for a very heavy gamer, because $100 is nothing to scoff at, when new dell systems often cost 400 or less.

If you are a casual gamer than the 9800 will serve you well, play all games with only some sacrifices in settings, be very STABLE, and makes good sense as a final AGP card. Chances are very high in this price range, that it is well matched to the hardware you have. For example a 6800 is kinda overkill if you are still using a 2GHz processor.

But the 6800 currently represents what is generally felt to be the best "bang for the buck" of the cards, much like the original ATI 9800 non-pro was 18 months ago for $200.

Newegg offers an XFX version that is dual DVI, which is great for 2 lcds.

Yeah, I'm a newb. Actually trying to help the guy out.
Wasn't directed at you. My apologies. I was having a poke at the OP. 😉 He didn't actually post a hot deal, so a little slap is not out of place, not least because he should know better by his 76th post.

Just to clarify there is no such thing as a 6800NU. Its just called a 6800. Most people understand its not a GT or Ultra.

but some dont

With the HL2 coupon/rebate, you could end up getting the 9800Pro for $129 plus tax. Not a bad deal. I'm just trying to decide whether the 6800 is worth $70 more to me or not.

I think it is worth the $70 is you are playing latest games like DOOM 3, Half life 2 etc. If i did not bought my card i would definately buy one and unlock the other 4 pipes and enjoy 🙂
