I had mine pulled at two times. Once for the left side, once for the right.

First time... everything went well. Bleeding stopped after the first day. I ate apple sauce mostly.

Second time... one of the teeth broke, I had a mild fever for 2-3 days. Bled good for about a day. I ate apple sauce.

Anything that is not spicy and requires little chewing. And eat slowly, and always remember not to chew with pulled side (believe me, it was painful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

If you're doing it with local anesthetic, go pig out at buffer beforehand. You'll thank me later.

The entire process was much less painful than I feared. My root canal was 100% worse.

pudding, apple sauce, jello, mashed potatos. mushy type things. chewing isn't fun especially when you have to wash the chunks out of the huge bleeding holes in the back of your mouth.

Whatever you do, don't smoke - the suction will pull the stitches out and you'll bleed like crazy for hours. Been there, done that.

That said, don't forget to drink plenty of water or Gatorade.

No drinking from a straw either. I stocked up on some nutritional drink for old folks. Worked fine, but after drinking them for every meal, it got to me.

I had a lot of soup and used my blender a lot!

the pain really depends on the person. i had very little, i know of a few who had tons of pain.

yea, the straw thing sucks because you can force the blood clot out and that causes dry socket, and dry socket is NASTY!!!!!!!

Surgery: A couple days of hell and you can eat apple sauce.
Pull: 12 Hours and you're good to go.

Soup, baked potatoes, ice cream, yogurt. Had a fever and a pounding headache for a week, it sucked.

Um, no, you can't eat anything you want. You have to avoid anything that has little bits and pieces that can get lodged into the cavities. Nothing with seeds, for example. I also would avoid ice cream with chocolate chunks/shavings.

OMG... AHH.... the big holes in the gum? I remember how crappy that was when you got food stuck in there. It wasn't until a week later that they gave me a little squirt gun to clean it out.

I drank Carnation Shakes and had a banana that day (4 pulled). I was able to eat a cheeseburger and chips the next day.

my dentist keeps asking me when i want to go in for my oral surgury to get my wisdom teeth taken out and i keep putting it off cause i'm scared.. :(

how is this compared to a root canal? that hurt like hell, especially cause he didnt numb it on my second visit (where they widen the canals)

I had my wisdom teeth on my left side pulled, and then about a year later my right ones were yanked. Both times, I had some pain, but the painkillers with Codiene helped a lot. I ate a lot of applesauce, ice cream, jello, shakes, and pudding. I have to highly recommend that you eat like a king before you get your teeth yanked. Also, if you can get all your wisdom teeth pulled at once, that would be a huge help. The second time around was hell cause I knew how unpleasant it was the first time.

My wife did the smart thing. When she was going to have her wisdom teeth pulled, she got a dentist that wasn't afraid to hand out VERY STRONG strong painkillers. I would advise on that. :)

Yes, you CAN eat chips, but I believe you are not supposed to.
