getting windows XP to store it's cab files on disk

I forgot how I did this on another box.

I have already installed Windows. It's working just fine. But occasionaly when it needs to install a language font or to recover corrupted files, windows will ask for the install CD. I'm trying to eliminate that.

Just copy the entire i386 folder to your windows directory. Should be the first thing you do after rebooting to windows after a clean install, and before doing all the updates.

Tash,

Welcome to the Forums! 😀

As Terumo says, copy the i386 folder to one of your partitions.
Afterward, you need to edit the reistry as follows:

Navigate to "HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\current version" and locate the "source path" key.
Edit the key to point to the location of your i386 folder and you're done.

You will never be asked for the install disk again.
