i have a pair of stereo speakers, and headphones.

my speakers do not have headphones jack, so the headphones are hooked up through the surround output of the soundcard

i want to play mp3s through winamp, and have sound through the headphones and speakers.

the M-Audio Revolution soundcard driver does not have any option to emulate front channel -> rear channels, and winamp does not have built-in function to play through rear channels. Is there a plug-in that does this--play sound through the fronts and rears, without some emulated 3d effect?

odd. ussually a soundcard gives you the choice of outputting to quad speakers. which is really just dual stereo. tell the maudio u have a quad setup, not stereo. that or get a switch box and just use the stereo output.

I'm not sure you can. I have a 4 speaker setup (basically 5.1 minus the base) and I've never found a way to make it work. Windows Media Player automatically does it, but winamp only plays through the front. If you find a way, let me know because I like Winamp, but don't use it because of that feature...

BTW - Before some stupid childish thread crapper chimes in, I'm sure there's probably another forum for this stuff, but heck I don't ever look at them either...Hope someone can help.

Winamp outputs to all 6 channels, for me.

Try this:
Preferences>Output
Select "Directsound Output"
Configure it to use hardware acceleration with your mAudio Revolution (first screen).

does the maudio come with a sound volume control rpogram? should have sliders for front to back as well as side to side balance.

the problem is with everything i play in winamp

yes, my output is the DirectOut to the soundcard... waveOut does not change this, either

The M-Audio driver has options for me to play through all the channels.. however, winamp only outputs to the front channels. i can get the Maudio Driver to send signal to the other outputs (rears, center, sub, etc), but they will be signal that are generated by the driver to simulate 3d effect...

there is no way for me to get the maudio to repeat the output on the front channels to the rear

(i can setup Foobar to send signal out through all the channels, but would much rather use winamp :))

Winamp FAQ:
Does Winamp support Surround Sound in 4.1 or 5.1 output?
No, Winamp 5 currently does not support any form of SurroundSound. You may download third party Winamp Plug-ins that enable this from our Plug-ins section.

There is a difference between Surround Sound and 2-channel sound played in 4 channels (duplicated channels). AFAIK Winamp DOES play on all 4 channels without the need of any plug-ins.
