Getting win2k3 speeds

Anyone who's used windows 2003 server edition will surely agree with me that the networking queries are very responsive. If you were to type //friendcomp and browse thru another computer, it feels almost as it you were browsing a local disk.
In addition, it just seems to give me better response times and overall better speeds when downloading/playing online games.

Now I'm running windows 2000, how can I get this to be as responsive as possible?
I want to prioritize the network over everything else.

Thanks

Am I correct in assuming that you have tried both 2000 and 2003 in the SAME environment using similar hardware and both under equal load?
