I bought a Duron 600 from buy.com hoping to go to at least 850, but I can't even get past 650. I have penciled in the L1 bridges and I can go to 650 default voltage but nothing above that even if I set the voltage to 1.85. I am using the Abit KT7 Raid Mainboard. This kind of sucks I thought I would get a little better results. Also I am using the retail heatsink and fan if that matters. Any help of what I can be doing wrong would be much appreciated.

Ok I read about one guy having this exact same problem but I tried at 900 like he did but that still didn't work. I am pretty sure the pencil job was ok but can someone give me a few tips on how to do it.

It's possible that you have a dud cpu. Not all of them are made equally. Some are just better than others. I bought a Duron 650 two weeks ago for my wife's computer and it wouldn't go any higher than 800 so I returned it and paid the restocking fee. In it's place I ordered a blue TBird 750 @1000 from www.minotaur.com. I'm thinking of upgrading my old pII300 @450 with a Duron 600 @ 900/950. These I can get pretested for $85 and $88 respecitvely from www.azzo.com or http://phamcomputer.safeshopper.com/33/180.htm?599
Check em out. By the way I don't work for these places.

What is the temperature you are running at. If you are using a retail HSF, heat may be the problem (though it is less probably at 650MHz). You would want a temperature from 30-50C.

A note on pencil on the bridges:
The bridges should not be drawn so that they cross each other. All four bridges have to be connected. If done improperly only certain multipliers will be available.

Unless you happen to have bought the world's worst Duron, it's got to be your pencil job. Erase and start over. Here is a pic of what to do Picture

What kind of pencil do you guys use to pencil in the multiplier? At first I used my lead pencil, but that never seemed to work. Then I switched to a real pencil and that finally worked. Was difficult to do it though since I don't have a pencil sharpener and the lead was pretty dull.

Ah ok, I finally got it working at around 1Ghz! My last question is what is the highest recommended I/O voltage? Also what is a good cpu temp to have? Thank you all kindly.

Danm now I'm jealous. That's a great CPU you have there. Try running your CPU for a couple of days and see how stable it is then try to lower you I/O voltage. Mind is currently at 3.3V where it used to be at 3.5 before. And my temp use to hover around 52C under full load and I've just switch a 80mm intake a 120mm and it has lower by a few degrees.

lestat: Two weeks ago I was in the same boat as you. I couldn't get my Duron 600 to o/c at all. I was beginning to think I'd just bought the one Duron in the entire world that wouldn't do squat. Fortunately, -paldo (and a few others here) convinced me to keep re-penciling the L1 bridges. Six "pencilings" later I hit 900MHz.

Hang in there buddy!
