Getting vinyl siding/covering for soffits and ends of the house

I have a mostly brick home 2,200sq ft. I'm having it reroofed soon and was going to go vinyl for the soffits and sides at around the same time.

Soffits -- All the wood and attic vents underneath the roof overhang of the house.

Sides -- Both sides of the house are the same.

Have any of you had or know someone that has had this done?
How did it turn out?
Beneficial?
Cost?

We used to install vinyl on some of our rentals. I never really liked it. Looks cheap. They do have some nicer stuff, but you can still tell it's vinyl. It's going to be a lot more labor, but if it were my house, i'd install hardi plank. They even have a perforated version made for soffits.
