Getting video onto an ipod.

What do you guys use, and what software do you use to do it?
I'd like to put a few movies on there and some Real Player files. Maybe some mpegs.
I understand I need to change the format of the video, but I don't know what format or the size of the video.
I understand I can use Quicktime Pro to do that.
How do I rip one of my dvd's to the ipod?
I am familiar with dvdshrink, dvddecrypter and dvdfab.
I usually use dvdfab.

I didn't have realplayer (cause it sux). The missing codec may have been the problem with videora.
I'll try it agtain after I finish the files I'm ripping with Jodix ipod video converter.
It was a freebia at download.com.
