Getting used to Midnights...

God damn, the midnight shift is a b!tch. I can't eat on my breaks, and I get exhausted 3/4 the way through my shift.

For those of you who work the nightshift, how long did it take you to adapt?

A lot of times I'm pretty much 24/7 incase any of the production servers go down.

Learn to love coffee.

I love it, but I can barely drink during my shift. I don't know what's wrong with me. -_-

My body had a very very rough time doing 24/7 shifts

In fact, I left the company before I got used to the shifts (close to a year)

I would never want to get in another 24/7 situation unless I had no other choice.

That's the sad part. I just work in a grocery store doing produce. It's not a hard job, just the shift is screwing me up.

you can't eat on breaks? why?

I get physically ill.

a few weeks or a month is all it should take if you are sleeping at the right time

barfing will keep you awake, so i don't see the problem

drink a mega crapload , that way you'll either stay awake from having to piss or from barfing

problem solved

Have you tried... not working the night shift?

or work the night shift in another time zone, say , china , then it will seem like daytime but it will be night time

I used to work the midnight shift, but I never got to "adapt" because I worked 1 day shift, 2 evening shifts and 2 midnight shifts a week. It was the day shift I hated the most, because at the time I usually went to bed at 4:00 a.m. and I had to get up at 5 to get to work by 6.

If you are getting physically ill when you eat, perhaps a visit to your doctor would be in order?

It took about seven months before I started getting a "real" sleep pattern where I was able to get a straight 5hrs of sleep. Luckily, I go to the day shift in October. Yeah! I scored!

I worked in a grocery store as a cashier. Some of you might have heard of the chain "Giant." Sometimes I would work until midnight. I knew alot of the produce guys, and the guys who would stock everything else, and they had some tough schedules. But grocery stores pay better than retail and most of them are unionized.

I loved that shift schedule. We did 6 on 4 off. No need to adjust to the night shift.

As for working the night shift, you just have to make sure you don't revert back to the daytime hours on your days off.
