Getting Thunderbird to Sync with Gmail

I'm using thunderbird, and I am wondering if it is possible to have it, so that when I delete on thunderbird, the email is also deleted from the web-based application?

what about archiving, does thunderbird allow for archiving?
 
There is a 'leave messages on server' box which is ticked by default. It's under Account Settings --> Server Settings.
 
As far as I understand it, this is a gmail problem, not thunderbird. Tb can follow the pop3 protocol perfectly but the gmail servers can still choose to keep an extra copy of every email around if they want.
