Getting the TouchWiz Calendar on the Google Nexus?

The AOSP stock calendar has brought my productivity to a halt. I *require* a calendar where I can just press and hold an entry and drag it to where it needs to be. The TouchWiz calendar allows this. The AOSP calendar does not and I have to edit the event to edit the time, removing all viability I have of other calendar entries.

Try some alternative calendar apps. Sense and TouchWiz apps don't work on phones that didn't ship with them, and they seemingly require quite a bit of work to get them working that no one is really willing to do.

TW apps uses the entire TouchWiz framework, it's not something that you can just pull the apk from and it'll work. Same with Sense and other skins.

Um. The aosp calender allows me to do it

How? I press and hold on a calendar event and up pops a blank event, like it thinks I want to create a new event, when all I want to do is drag the event that I'm pressing and holding on.

Tried Business Calendar, aCalendar, Jorte. Nothing. They're worse, in fact.

Oops I was thinking about Google calender (browser version)

Touch wiz is a OS skin/add on essentially :/ if you're running a rooted device, see if MIUI has it (its kinda like touchwiz)

I use the paid Business Calendar app. I can drag and drop events just fine. You need to be in multi day view to do it. It's only supported in the paid app. I have the 4x3 monthly view widget on my home screen. I just swipe on the days I want to change and it takes me to multi day view. From there I can drag and drop the events to different days/time.

I have the paid Business Calendar app.

I'm in multi-day view right now showing 3 days.

If I press and hold on an event I just got the menu pop-up for Show Day, Add New Event, Edit Event, Delete Event, and Copy Event. No way for it to unfreeze the event and allow dragging.

EDIT: Nevermind. I have to turn Drag and Drop on. It's off by default.

Quick question for Business Calendar:

1. When I'm in multi-day view I can't seem to swipe up or down to scroll through the entire day. Say that I've set the screen to show the events from 9AM to 5PM (8 hour range). Obviously there are going to be times when I want to scroll up and down through the day to see 6AM to 2PM, or what I'm up to from 3PM to 11PM.

But when I flick up the view changes to a list view.

2. Another thing: I have an event half-covering 3 other events. Those 3 events are from 12:00 to 1:30. I have another event from 12:30 to 6PM. The latter event just covers up those 3 previous events so only a sliver of color (and title text) is showing, that from 12:00 to 12:30.

Yeah, you have to touch the little hand icon in the top left corner to toggle on the drag and drop. Like I said, I use the monthly view which displays all my schedule for the month. And if I want to change something, I swipe across the days I want to look at and change and that takes me to multi-day view. From there I can drag and drop.

I got the paid Business Calendar app as Amazon free app of the day months back and have been using it ever since mainly because of the 4x3 monthly view widget. It works for me and since it's Android app, I'm not tied down to specific launcher like Launcher Pro or skins like Touchwiz, Sense, or Motoblur. I used Launcher Pro back in Froyo & Gingerbread days because of its calendar widget. Business calendar helped me break away from Launcher Pro.

1) why not use bigger range? I use 9am to 10pm. Then again I use portrait instead of landscape orientation.

2). That is annoying and I can see how that would be a pain if you had multiple entries at the same timeslot and one multi hour blocking the view. You can pinch to zoom in and out to see the events better but that's about it. Maybe you can email the developer for better fix/ solution.

1. I use portrait. 9AM to 10PM doesn't always include everything in my day (6AM is missing, for example) and the text becomes impossible to read and the events get too small to tap if you've got a busy schedule. I mean, honestly. I've never heard of a calendar app that doesn't scroll through your day with a flick... actually, I haven't heard of a calendar app that doesn't support dragging and dropping entries either until I switched to AOSP so I guess the bar is set pretty low to begin with.

2. This is normal? Seems like a straight-up bug.

I'm sorry, I'm just so frickin' frustrated right now. All of these user interface features I see as standard and to see these calendar apps not implement them is ridiculous. I never thought the TouchWiz calendar was all that. I simply thought that was just how all calendar apps should function. Now I see the TW calendar as a true diamond in the rough, sadly. I mean, just copy the desktop calendar experience! Drag and drop entries. Scroll through the day. Zoom in and out. Don't allow events to cover up other events (I mean, isn't this *critical*????) It doesn't even take any kind of genius - just copy the user interface and the UX of the desktop version! How hard is that?

You're right. I guess I never noticed because I don't enter a ton of info. I only have one or two events entered daily. Maybe someone can chime in with better app or solution. Maybe return the GNex and pickup Galaxy S3 which has the Touchwiz calendar. Or maybe switch to iPhone if that has better calendar app.

Any idea if TouchWiz is even possible on the Nexus?

This is what a typical day looks like:

Look at the entry for 11:30AM - 12:30PM! It's completely, utterly hidden.

I can't spend $600 just to get a better calendar ><

$350 Nexus vs $600 Galaxy S3 :(

And hell no to iPhone and its ecosystem. Been there, done that.

At least you're busy which means you're making money! :p Yeah, that looks like a mess.

$600 is small price to pay if it's critical/productive for business use. I'm a small business owner myself so I can relate.

I wouldn't count on good Touchwiz port on GNex. People get GNex to escape Touchwiz. There might be a buggy port/attempt but if you want/need it, get the actual thing. $250 worth the hassle of using something that isn't working for you? $250 divided 2 years use? that's like $10 a month for productivity and time savings. Time is money. So is full set of hair on your head.

This.

True.

BUT DAMMIT. The Nexus was such a good frickin' deal! GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! When you divide it over time like that it's not so bad, but it's still $250 extra because a f(&*$*#&$ CALENDAR APP sucks.

Please tell me the Samsung Galaxy S3 at least comes pre-unlocked and is pentaband...

Samsung Galaxy S3 is not a pentaband phone.

Get off T-Mobile and use AT&T :D

Betting that phones will support the one network (and like 2 others in Canada) that uses AWS is a losing battle. You get lucky when phones like that do come out, but otherwise it's hopeless.

Hmmm... so I guess AT&T is the ONLY network in the USA that starts a chance of being a worldwide standard?

I just import International phones and use it on AT&T. (International SGS2/SGS3 being an example) International phones tend to also get better dev support/faster updates without having to go through provider (AT&T/Verizon/T-Mobile and such).

Last I heard, Jelly Bean update for SGS3 international is within 2-6 weeks.

it's just the fact that 850/1900 is used in more places in the world. it's at least used in all of latin america, australia, thailand, and maybe a few scattered regions.

we got shafted a lot in the beginning by HTC and Samsung for not having 850/1900. a lot of times we'd have to wait for Canadian versions, but it seems they're at least picking up 850/1900 in quad band phones or making variants that have the right frequencies. 1700 just stands little chance. I suspect Google was being nice to T-Mobile because of their previous Nexus devices. OTOH, Samsung really doesn't care about its SGS3 including 1 more band just to satisfy like 0.1% of potential customers?
