Getting the most out of new television

The TV is mounted above the fire place (elevated) in the main family room so there is a good amount of natural light. We do however close the curtains and blinds when desired and it blocks out a decent amount of light.

As it stands, the TV is just on whatever default settings came out of the factory. So what I'm wondering is how to get the most out of the viewing experience!

#1 move it down to a better viewing angle. above a fireplace is horrible
#2 calibration. check online for a how to with your model, or you can hire someone
#3 good sound. at least 2.1 or 3.1

+1 to #2 above. You can do it yourself using the THX Tune-up app. It does only work with certain model phones via Chromecast or Apple TV, but that's for a good reason. THX has tested those devices and put in the offsets. You can probably use another phone, but ensure that it's display is set to the most color accurate setting. It uses the camera/display to find the correct settings. OTOH, nearly all Apple devices are supported, too bad Apple TV isn't as popular or cheap as Chromecast.

So the TV has built in Chromecast that I've used from my apple and chromebook several times. So you're saying there is an app called THX Tune-Up? Will it do all the calibrating for me or essentially walk me through everything? Is it free? Also, couldn't I just input my exact model number to have it produce the best results?
