getting the fan speed set

Help ! I think my new card is overheating, as after a whole the PPD goes down, the the system locks up, and says nv_disp is the problem. Same system with a 8800 GT was stable, changed the video to 9800 GTX, and it does this.

What other tools are there ?

Only works on an evga card, this is an MSI card.

can you put the 8800GT back in the system? what drivers are you using? try reverting back to some 178 series if you're using 180s and see what happens. did the MSI install disk have any utilities on it?

I tried utilities. I am on 178, tied 180s' and no change. If I try to change and apply using nvidia utility, it says "changes are illegal and won't ne saved" or some crap like that. rivituner does NOT hve the same menu as my other cards, and thats where the fan speed controller is.

I need another alternative.

On second thought, these are only for 2 wire case fans. Your VGA fan probably has 3 wires?

Can you splice and lengthen the wires and plug it into a 3-wire fan control receptacle on your MB?

I suspect MSI disabled fan control in the bios on that card.🙁

It's normal to see different options available for different cards using RivaTuner but loosing fan control on 178.xx series video drivers is NOT normal.

suggestions:

uninstall RivaTuner and the NVidia tweaker you have tried. (tell it you do NOT want to keep existing profiles)

Re-install the latest (probably the same as you are presently using) version of RivaTuner

Be sure to check in both the low level and the driver level tweak sections of the RivaTuner menus.
