Getting the Equinox... just came back from dealership

You may also inquire if the Hyundai vehicles you're looking at have the bumper to bumper warranty extended by the previous owner (to match the 10yr/100K mile drivetrain warranty).

IIRC, their factory extended warranties are transferable to a 2nd owner. Would definitely be a great deal, if you had everything on the vehicle covered for 10/100.

We're looking at buying new - would this be applicable?

Update 12/21/2010
I think I'm going for the Equinox. My local dealership didn't have any, but can drive one in from another dealership about 120 miles away. Talked to him tonight and he can't tell me for sure what the final price will be until he talks to the other dealership tomorrow, but he thinks somewhere in the $25,300-$25,400 range. He also will take my 2001 Cav (125,000 miles) for $800 trade-in.

At least according to my AAA site, the price is pretty good. I hate haggling so hopefully this is decent? That price also includes the price to drive it down here.

It's a LT1 with Black Granite, Convenience Package and Sunroof.

From AAA Autobuying service speced out how my Equinox is coming:
Dealer Cost - $24,854
Factory Invoice - $25,626
Sticker Price - $26,490
Average Paid - $25,825

Good Price - Less than $25,933
Great Price - $25,475

I would ask if they could flatbed it, I had it done for my GTI and they didnt charge me any delivery fee for it.

I did first ask how they were delivering either by truck (I guess flatbed?) or driving it down and he said they have a delivery service that drives them down because it's a lot cheaper.

I just didnt want some punk 17 year old busting a nut on my brand new GTI before I had a chance to do it. Plus I don't like buying a new car with more than 20 or so miles on it /personal preference.

there are 2 ways the dealership will get it...

either the Salesman will go get it himself...
or
they will get a 'driver' to go get it... these are normally the 70 year olds, who are retired and just doing it to keep entertained...

Yes, the salesman said the owner of the driving service drives over 85% of the cars and he's around 70 years old. 🙂 So it's not a huge deal to get a car with that many miles on it already? Just like to see the miles low if I'm buying something NEW.

warranty starts with the mileage displayed on the ODO when you drive it off the lot... make sure the documents you sign, match up with the ODO prior to signing.... if you bought a new car that had 1500 miles from driving from FL to NE, you get warranty up until warranty+1500 miles

Wondering if this would work.... I believe Chevy has a $1500 cash-back program going with a 0% for 36-months. The payment would be too high, but could I get this and then a week later refi with my local bank at a higher rate and longer term?

Not sure if banks would do something like this...

Why not just Fin with your bank now and take the $1500 from chevy?

I 'think' to get the $1500 you have to use Ally (their lender). They do offer higher than 36-months, but the rate jumps to 7.9% for 48,60,72.

Description on site:
Bonus Cash GM 2010 Ally Financial Down Payment Assistance (11-40AH) - National excl PRUSVI

You can try. It also says no payments till spring so you would have time to work on it. Just make sure there is no early payment caluse

Just got back from the dealership earlier and we're just waiting for the other dealership to respond to find out if they'll swap. Sales guy seems pretty upfront. Had a +500 coupon for my cavalier so my tradein value will be $1000.

I was also pushing him kind of hard on price and he said he would even split the hold-back with me... Threw out a $600 split 300/300 number. Is this regular sales jargon or is he offering a good deal?

You're timing your purchase very well. End of month, end of year....both quotas to be met, so deals are being made.

The holdback is real, the amount is being low balled to you a tad, but not a lot. Holdback on the Equinox ranges from around $678 for the LS FWD version to $899 for the LTZ AWD version. So, depending on which model, his quoted holdback figure is kinda close to very close.

At this point, he should basically just ask to see the invoice, I am assuming the dealer had probably a $500 margin on the car with the last offer... holdback is $600, offer a split, take 300 off, still make $200 plus margin. Gives more of an allusion that they are out of negotiating room...

he is getting a good deal, dealers hate arguing over 300 bucks... if the dealer is local, and offers some sort of service coverage plan, just ask for that... it guarantees your car back to them for pretty much anything, and costs them little in terms of other fixes (tires, brakes)... if not, meh... nothing lost.

I'm surprised the offer for the split of the holdback came up from the salesman. He's really trying to seal the deal....but with the Equinox, I'd jump on it. Quite good vehicle. And I'd not worry about reliability.....it's not the 1980's. GM, along with Ford, are producing vehicles the equal of the imports, sometimes better, in reliability.
