Kinda new at this. I am getting the VP722 box from Dish with the all HD package. The second line out will be to a 32" 720 LCD. The second line only sends out SD but the feed will be HD. Will the down convert to SD on the second tv look the same, better or worse than if it was just an SD feed going to the second tv. Once again my assumptions may be wrong, but thats why I am here.. Thanks...

What do you mean by second line out? Why can't you use HDMI and Component. As far as I know, you still get HD res. To answer your question, I can't look much worst than watching an SD broadcast on HD.

Hello Captain.
The 722 receiver will handle 2 tv sets. One HDMI feed and one SD feed. There is only one hdmi which will be for my primary set. The 32 lcd 720 is the secondary set. If I went with the Dish HD upgrade to my current package, I would get all my SD programing in additon to some HD programing. In that case, I would have some SD channels and some HD. The secondary tv would be pulling in SD and I assume down converted HD to SD. I have the 720 lcd hooked up now and the SD looks ok in 4:3. When I get the all HD package, I will not have any SD feed. It will all be HD feed. The 722 will not feed HD to both sets. It will feed HD to the primary set via HDMI and will feed SD to the secondary set. I do not want to get 2 HD boxes which is what would be needed to have HD on both sets. My concern is that the HD feed from Dish having to be down converted on the secondary set to SD will look worse than what the straight SD feed now looks like. If I can know for sure that the HD to SD is going to look worse than the SD feed to the 720 lcd that I have now, then I will bite the bullet and get 2 boxes, one for each set. I hope that makes it more clear. Talking to Dish reps is a blur. I am hoping some has done this and can fill me in. Whew....

IMHO since you are feeding this SD signal to a 32" TV you should be OK but of course the bigger you go the SD signal will suffer more. I have D* and I feed my signal to a 57" TV my SD signal is acceptable as long as I don't "expand" the signal to fit the screen.

The 722 will convert the HD channels to SD for the second output.
I use the second output for my pc,
Ran a svideo cable from the 722 to the pc , and still have the coax output going to a second tv.
The quality on the second output when viewing HD channels that are converted to SD is excellent.
Its like watching a DVD in progressive mode.
Really wish the normal SD channels looked as good.

Bingo Modelworks, Thanks. That was the answer I was hoping for. Will order the all HD package this week.

Are you needing the dual tuners - feed 1 (primary) showing different content from feed 2 (SD, secondary)? Or would it be okay to send the same signal to both TVs (sometimes watch on TV 1, sometimes on TV 2)?

The reason I ask is that the Dish receiver can actually feed HDMI and component simultaneously, so if you can use the same signal for both TVs, the secondary one can be done via component. I did this in my house, where sometimes I want to watch on my bedroom TV and sometimes on the projector in the room just below my bedroom, so I bought some 50 ft component cables and 50 ft RCA cables and I don't have to get another receiver.

OK..Dish...missed that. I had DirecTV stuck in my head for some reason. No component outs?!? That stinks.
