So whats the secret? I had some new tires mounted cheap and they didn't remove the blue stuff from the lettering on the tires and I need to take it off. Rubbing alcohol or something maybe?

Its dried soap. Water and a brass scrub brush should do it.
If they are old stock it my take a little elbow grease though.....:)

you didnt read the manual that came with your tires did you?

Please follow these steps to eleminate the protective coating from the lettering on your new tires.

Step 1. Drive to the nearest liquor store/quick-e-mart
Step 2. Purchase large amount of grain alcohol
Step 3. Drink grain alcohol at pace that would make Andy Dick proud
Step 4. Drive at least 10 miles, making sure to make frequent right and left hand turns. If steps 1 through 3 were done correctly you should be hitting curbs on every turn
Step 5. Repeat steps 1-4 until protective coating is completely removed

Don't buy tires with white lettering? Nobody wants to know what brand of tire you're riding.

Take it to a decent tire place and they would have done it for you!!:p

True, that. Never accept poor service.

I ordered the tires from tirerack so I was just paying these guys for mounting so I can't complain. I paid $8 a tire for mounting and disposal and balancing, every other place around here wanted like $20.

I don't either but this size of this tire only comes with white lettering. You'll learn to cope with it I'm sure.

Thanks for the tips. I tried a stiff nylon brush and got nowhere, I'll try the brass one later.

Westley's Bleech White

I was waiting for someone to post this :). Only thing I've ever used for cleaning white lettering on tires.
