Getting rid of this Enternet 300 PPOE crap

If i get a router ie (linksys,netgear, or smc) i will be able to get rid of Enternet 300 PPOe crap on my dsl from ameritech correct. im new to networking and have read this is true. just looking for some input to confirm this.

My DSL (not Ameritech) came with Netscape and WinPOET that had to be installed first. I got on line the ID and PW, and entered them into the Router. When the Router connected I got rid of all the additional software, and Dialup installation that is dished by the PPPOE arrangement.

 
Yes, if you get DSL/Cable gateway device (i.e. Netgear 311, 314, et all) the you won't have to have the PPP client on your computer.
