i suspect this is a hardware issue...

A while ago my folks got a 366MHz eMachine. (avoid the thing like a plague...). Anyway, when you power it on, right at the beginning of the boot sequence, it comes up with the eMachines logo. This is basically right after post. I am wondering how one would go about getting rid of it? It's just that it would be nice to see the actual boot process with the memory check etc...

can anybody shed some light on this?

thanks,
pawel

That cursed logo is coded into the BIOS... The only way to get rid of it would be to read, hack and reflash the BIOS - not an easy task... I'm almost surprised no one's done it and posted patched BIOS on the 'net somewhere - except that it'd be such a huge pain for so small a benefit...

my dell was the same way. there should be a setting in the BIOS that will let you turn the logo off, or atleast make it smaller in the corner of the screen...

I wouldn't flash it with any random BIOS. Motherboards do get customized even if they use the same chipset. You might end up with settings that aren't quite optimal or worse incorrect for your motherboard.
