Hey All,

I currently have Internet and Phone with Comcast but don't want to pay the $7 rental fee for using their modem anymore. I plan on replacing the modem to keep the internet working, but is there a way to bypass having to keep their modem to continue using the phone? Any suggestions?

Gotta get something off the list. If you have phone through them, then you'll have to get a telephony modem.

2 things

1. When you are done with their modem, bring it back to the closest local Comcast location, return it, and KEEP THE RECEIPT. This way, if they continue to charge you for the modem(assuming you check the bill :) )...you have proof you physically returned it.

2. When you get the new modem, a phone call to support with the new ID's from the Modem will be required.

I picked up a Motorola SB6121 off of Amazon and it works great. Get the 50Mbps+ consistently and never have to reboot the modem.

If you have their phone service, you have to use their modem.

Not 100% true, for a while best buy was selling arris Tm 722's that you could buy and use,m most best buys found it to not be popular enough to keep the space used up, last I heard, but you can try a local one if you have one, there is talks of letting amazon in on the deal, the issue is to make sure your using legit equipment, and not stolen, and so some things are not as easy as they seem.

Best bet call Comcast and ask them about your specific area's limits, there was also talk of us selling our own devices at one time, never heard any more about ti though.
