Have a 2013 Tacoma 4wd for almost 5 years, wanting something a bit more refined and comfortable while maintaining similar fuel economy, love my truck not entirely sold on the idea, but won’t be towing bed is more for volume and most it gets is the occasional load of wood, kayaks and garbage. Yay or nay, last f series I had was a 96 with the 4.9. Help me out

F150 is going to feel a lot bigger I think. Not sure what the mpg is on the ecoboost but I get 19mpg mixed on my 5.0L 4wd which probably isn't that far off the mileage on your Tacoma. I would not call it refined and luxurious inside unless you go for the lariat or platinum versions. Even the XLT is pretty sparse.

Hard to find 4wd f150 these days, at least in my area. They sell through the 5.0L 4wd almost immediately.

I love my F150 4x4 with the 3.5 TT Ecoboost and 10 speed transmission. I get between 18 and 22 mpg, depending on the roads and traffic. I have the Lariat FX4 package and 6.5'bed, so it weighs more than an XLT with the 5.5' bed ...and that reflects in the mpg.

spaceman!

i know what you mean about the prices, they are nuts.

i was looking at trucks and 30$k only buys an 8-10 year old truck with almost 100k miles on it.

many years ago i had a ranger and i wouldn't mind test driving one someday.

but right now prices and supply are crazy, so i sit at home doing nothing.

I'd wait on vehicle pricing to settle down but even then, I wouldn't get a 2.7L turbo full sized pickup truck, unless you drive like a slug so the turbo never kicks in, otherwise the fuel savings won't exceed repair cost plus depreciation in the used market, again once vehicle prices normalize post-covid, and gas post-Russia.

Vehicle pricing isn't expected to get better for a while. The chip shortages are making new vehicles scarce...which drives up the price of decent used vehicles as well.

^ Yes, exactly, I'd wait that "while", since it's implied the budget is under 30K.

I hadn't picked up on that, but yeah at 30k you're probably talking about a pretty well beaten f150 with over 50k miles on it in this market. The ecoboost (3.5L) on my explorer gave me problems around 70k which is why I avoided it when I bought my f150

On the plus side you can get probably $20k or more for the tacoma. I certainly wouldnt trade one for a striped down ford though.
Love my 2013 tacoma. 225k miles and never been in the shop besides routine maintenance and wear items(front brakes once).

The market is silly atm, a coworker has a new rocky ridge and it’s been in and out of the shop with that eco boost (3.5 afaik) The maverick is a paper launch at this point, need more room than an r cab thinking of a frontier pre 2020 with four full doors

That's a nice truck.

All the Rocky Ridge Ford trucks I have seen locally have the 5.0l v8 engine. Curious what problems he is having with it. I like those trucks but man, the fuel economy has to be abysmal with the lift and those wheels/tires. Not to mention the $100k price tag.
