getting rid of dymanic disks...

if it REALLY started life as a basic disk, and you converted it to dynamic, it should have kept the partition table around somewhere, so you can go into disk administrator and right click on the drive itself (to the left of the partition graphic) and there is a choice for "revert to basic disk".

i havent tried it yet, becuase i dont trust it :) but the help claims it works.

I believe that if you revert back to basic disk, you will lose all your data.

unfortunetly, I think this disk started life off as dynamic disk as win2k won't let me revert it. however, I don't recall explicity setting it as dynamic-does win2k automatically do this on a fresh install?
