Getting Rid of Cat Hair

Well, I just moved into an apartment and I have some major problems. I am allergic to cats and it seems the person in there before us had some! We are in the process of shampooing the carpets, but I am looking for other advice on how to get rid of it ALL. I have never used one of those ion clean things, but I am wondering if they would help in this case. If so, are there any relatively cheap ones that would do a good job? Any other advice is appreciated, I need to breath again.

Absolutely. The management should've shampooed the carpets before you moved in. That's part of the deal on their end.

BTW; Cats are Evil. Like children.

and thirded.

At the minimum, file a complaint with them and foward all the bills for cleaning supplies to them.

I would think that not cleaning up pet dander is a health department issue that could pose some serious fines for them.

I do believe that the carpets were cleaned before we moved in, I just don't think they did the best job. I will try and get the cleaning costs back, but I am still curious about those ionic air cleaners. Do they work?

<-----------used to work for an allergist, for 4 years. Got central air/heat? If so, pet dander will be all throught the duct work, and you'll never get that cleaned up. Can you make them move you to a different apartment?

I would really hate to have to move apartments. We have most of our stuff moved in, and I am pretty sure they would give us a hard time about it. Do they have to allow us to move if I request it? What laws come into play here? I wou.ld love to find another solution. thank

One thing to add, if I ask them to clean my vents out, are they required by law to do this? I am going to talking to them either tomorrow or in the next day or two about this, but if I knew they had to, it would be much easier. Thanks.

Depends on the laws in your state. I don't know how stringently landlords are regulated there. It might be a pain in the short term to move to another apartment, but in the long run, I think you'll be better off.

I feel for you, I have allergies myself. Good luck!

<--- Carpet Cleaner here. :)

I can add that poor carpet cleaning can be at least part of the cause. Landlords will always use the cheapest guy around to do it. The cleaner gives a better price because of the volume of work the landlord offers. Also, the other problem is the ducts need to be cleaned completely and sanitized. It's hard to say if you can get the landlord to do anything about it. You can at least get another carpet cleaning out of it I'm sure.

I don't care what I'm allergic too, I just want it gone :)
