getting rid of associations

Right now all my .dat files are associated with nero for some reason. I just want to make it a unassociated file. I am pretty sure the settings are in Win.ini or something but the last time I messed with that file was back in the winME(hell) days. So please help me out here and help me find where I can remove this association from

File associations are all in Folder Options. You can edit them, delete them, add to them - whatever. It is in Control Panel or My Computer/Tools.
