Getting rid of a bad smell in a fridge?

My roommate left some bad meat or somethin in his mini fridge and now it stinks up a storm whenever he opens the fridge even slightly... he got rid of the source and has 2 boxes of baking soda in there. It's been more than a week now and it still smells.... albeit not as bad as before.

what should we do?

Get rid of the body. I thought we talked about bringing home your kills. *taps foot* If you're gonna pick up hookers and eviscerate them, at least be smart enough to NOT put the bodies in your kitchen refrigerator, for crissakes!

Baking soda won't work on real powerful stuff, as it only cleanses scents out of the air. If you have a puddle of rotting blood in the bottom of the fridge it's not gonna help. You just have to bite the bullet and wipe down the entire interior with bleach.

Probably about 5 years back, my dad's big freezer in the basement somehow got unplugged and no one found out for maybe a week or two. Well, there was pounds upon pounds of frozen beef in there, and we finally figured it out when researching the strange but faint smell in the basement. We had to haul that meat out of there in trash bags, it was by far the worst smell I've ever smelled. I figured "hey, no smell can be THAT bad that it would literally make you puke", but HAH! I was so close to hurling the entire time, AND I had a towel over my face. It was awful. Amazing how bad rotting flesh smells. Anyways, it was summer, so the freezer spent a little while outside soaking in bleach and whatnot, and it eventually was as good as new.

Get a bucket and fill it with water. Add a cup of bleach and a box of baking soda. Turn off the fridge and unplug it, remove everything from the fridge AND freezer including the shelves. Scrub down everything. Every nook and cranny. Refill the bucket with plain water and completely rinse all areas by scrubbing it down again, repeat. Leave the fridge open for a couple days to air out the bleach.

Take everything out of the fridge, and wipe down the walls and everything with an enzymatic cleaner. Let fridge air out for a day before putting everything back in. And throw out the baking soda and get some new boxes.
