Getting PCI cards to work...

WHy is it that I always need to switch PCI cards to different slots to get them to all work properly at the same time? I've especially had to do this once I got my TV tuner card. Granted, I do have a lot of devices - Matrox G550 AGP Video card, and all the rest are PCI: SoundBlaster Live! (original), Linksys 10/100 NIC, Lucent 56K Winmodem, SiS USB 2.0/Firewire card, Winfast XP Tv tuner. But generally speaking, why is it that some devices work only in certain slots or in a certain order?

do u install them one at a time, or do u stick them all in at once and install the OS? personally, i have never had the problem u described, but i've made a habit of installing one pci device at a time.

Because on some mo/bo's the last pci slot shares an irq with another pci slot. Also if they arent seated rite, they dont werk.

Yeah, one at a time. The "last" PCI slot is the one is the one at the bottom right?

I may be pushing it, because I am trying to get two video cards and a tv tuner working all at the same time. 🙂
