Getting past 200 fsb... (Asus nf2)

I'm having a bit of a struggle getting my 2100 tbred b to go past 197-199 fsb. I've got 1gb pc3200 ram, and the a7n8x-d. It'll boot windows @ 215, but Prime95 fails within 10 minutes. I've boosted the voltage on both the ram and cpu in my attempts, but it doesn't make a difference. In fact, with higher ddr voltages, it fails quicker.

My question is this: Does getting a higher fsb speed depend not only on support by both the mainboard and ram, but also the ability of the cpu? Thank you.

i just got rid of a a7n8x-e deluxe because it refused to hit 200fsb. its a known issue. my new DFI does it perfectly with the same cpu and ram which confirms it.

They really shouldn't call it Ultra 400 if it's actually Ultra 396. Or Asus should start putting disclaimers on the m/b boxes..."Voltage modding tools not included (grabbers, pencils, etc.)."

What percentage did you set the cpu/ram percentage setting at? For some reason whenever I try to use async, it won't boot.

83%... gave me a RAM frequency of 194 as reported by the BIOS during the POST.

I tried it at 240, but nothing happened after rebooting, so I think the motherboard's limit is about 233... with my new RAM and CPU, if I can get 233x10.5 with the RAM in sync at no worse than 2.5-3-3-11 I'll be happy. If my new Muskin PC3500 Level 1 RAM won't go that high, I'll probably run it at about 220x11 or something like that... (I'm expecting at least 2.4 Ghz from my new Mobile XP2500 that should arrive Monday) If I get a crappy mobile that won't get to 2.4 Ghz on 1.7 volts or less, I'll probably just run it at 233x9.5 or 233x10... whatever works, and assuming the RAM can keep pace :D

Thanks, bro. Couple more questions for ya Jeff! What version m/b did you get and what bios are you using? Do you use the Uber versions that allow higher voltages? No volt mods for all that speed?

I got one of the very first Revision 2 boards... got it about a year ago before Revision 2 boards were even advertised... didn't realize it was even special until everyone started looking for Revision 2 A7N8X Deluxe boards, then I realized on my PCB it says Rev. 2.0 :D Right now I'm using the 1007 Uber BIOS... and no... not a single mod to anything other than clock speeds =) My crappy RAM I have now needs 2.8 volts just to work at 2.5-3-3-11 @ 200 Mhz though. Any lower and it errors out in Prime 95 after about 4 hours. I'm hoping this Mushkin stuff is better.

pilsnerpete wot multi are you using when trying 200mhz? and wot vcore etc
[and jeff same question but adjuested to say when succeeding with 200mhz!]

i ask becos i can run my 2100 stable at 9.5x200 [ram in synch 6-2-2-2] at 1.675vcore but when i try running at 10x200 even with vcore=1.750 it boots into wondows fine and runs the sandra cpu burn test but crashes immediately with the 3dmark01 benchies...and is generally flakey [also crashes when i loaded prime95 and then tried to run mbm5 to watch the temps too]

ram has passes memtest at this speed overnight

The 10x and 10.5x multis don't work on my board at all, so I either use 9.5x or 11x. I have the voltage set at 1.825v; actual is 1.85v.

Well, I set the m/b to run the ram async @ 83% last night. (I must have gone the other way when I last tried that because it worked this time.) And I got the fsb to 219 x 9.5.

The fact that the ram won't go above 198 fsb stably is really bizarre to me. I've seen lots of folks get far better oc's with this ram: Twinmos bh-5.

as i said before, its probably not your ram but the motherboard. there are many different versions of this asus board and some are better than others. mine happened to be really terrible. i couldn't do much with the asus above 400 but my new DFI allows my ram to hit 450mhz.

I have a p4 board I can test the ram in today, Lord willing. If it's good, why then I'll go ahead with the chipset voltage mod.

i had this motherboard and couldn't get to 200fsb fully stable
i took the NB heatsink off and it didn't even say ultra 400 even tho the board was sold as such being the v2.0
i ended up taking it back

My XP2000+ can never reach 2.3ghz. Nomatter what configurations, I'll only get 2296mhz the most. I guess its just luck sometimes. :)

So how is the A7N8X deluxe-E compare to A7n8X Deluxe,
when it comes to reaching FSB400?

Is the "E" version having more problems ?

I got an A7N8X Deluxe and touch FSB 200 is not a problem,
in fact I am running at 205

i noticed a similar oddity on my board and it turned out to be the board not the ram: i have twinmos winbond bh5 and it was originally in slots 1/3; i got error after crash; i tested with memtest and again errors galore [with vdimm=2.8/timings by spd].
i then test each module in each slot at 200mhz, stock vdim, timings 6-2-2-2 and no errors in either dimm in slot 2 or 3 but loads in slot 1 @200mhz.
i tested slot 1 @ 166 mhz and no errors; admittedly i couldnt be bothered seeing how high it goes before it errors.

so i switched to slots 2/3 and ran 9.5x200 in dual channel with no probs.

from what you say here and others on the nforcershq site, maybe my 10x problems are m/b based so i will have to live with 9.5 [o maybe 11 with better hsf
;)]
