Getting packages mailed to you at work

I live in an apartment and I don't reliably get packages delivered to me. Generally they're just held at the sorting facility until I pick them up. So I have them sent to work instead. But sometimes I feel like I'm wasting the time of the guys in the mail room. I guess for small items it's not a big deal, but what about big things? On the one hand, I don't want to risk having UPS drop an expensive, large package (like an LCD monitor) where anyone can take it, and driving to pick those up is sort of a pain in the ass too. But those are the very items where I'd also rather not cause a huge hassle for the mail room.

Anyone else have the same concern or am I just a worry-wart?

The secretary brings me my packages and smiles no big deal.

You should see around Xmas, I have a shit-ton arrive.

Never too much. The only reason to NOT have packages delivered at work is if you have a morbid fascination with watching a UPS truck stop right next to your house while you sit outside on the patio waiting for a package, just to watch in amazement as it waits 3 seconds and then proceeds to drive off while your online tracking notification is immediately marked for next day delivery due to nobody being home to receive it.

If it bugs you enough to post here, why don't you just go talk to your mail room staff and see if it is a problem for them? More than likely, any issues they might have with getting your personal packages delivered there will be defused simply by the fact that you were considerate enough to talk to them about it.

I do almost all my shopping but groceries online so almost daily I have something here.

If it's big they just let the guy put it somewhere, otherwise we get enough mail that mine is not significant.

They still give me a personal call when I get something that looks non-work related and usually ask what I got :)

Ask the guys in your mailroom, they'd be the ones to complain.

They're just terrible these days. Twice they delivered next door instead. Lately they put it on the floor in front of my door, knock lightly, then walk away. Umm... doorbell is right there.

I work in a stockroom. Lots of personal packages come through, I just log them and put them on the shelf, nothing against them in policy. Had my laptop come there too, that way I'd be sure to get it, since nobody would've been home to sign.

I find it really depends on your shipping department. I'd never send anything to my work because my receiving department is a pain in the ass about picking up packages yourself. But it wasn't always that way.

If it's a big box, just go down and pick it up yourself. The mail staff doesn't have to do anything with it.

i have almost all my packages delivered there b/c I live a little outside town & it would take an extra day to get to my house.

our mail room is awesome - we get great negotiated rates with UPS/FedEx since we're a large corp... i send out all my family presents, Ebay stuff, etc... through them & get great rates.. I just sent some 8.5 x 11 art work overnight from SATX to little rock OVERNIGHT am delivery for $6.42

Apparently way back in the mists of corporate history some company VP got his undies in a knot over personal packages so about once a year we get an email reminding us that we shouldn't have personal packages delivered to the office.

I'd say anything above half a kilo per shipment is too much and might arose suspicion. Don't forget to pack it in coffee grounds.

a lot of people do it at my office, but i have a doorman who takes care of my deliveries for me, which i find is more convenient.
