Getting P4 cheap

I'm getting :

P4 1.4 retail pack with 3 yr warranty
Intel 850 gb m/b w/ 3 yr warranty
128 mb rdram

in a bundle for Rs. 19000 = US $ 380

Should I go for it. I don't want oc. The board stands pretty good in Anand's roundup except for its lack of oc features. I beleive the price above is damn cheap.

Some say the 423 socket is already out but I think even the 478 won't last long, what with northwood, itanium, sledgehammer around the corner. With this proce, i can build a mchine at less than $800.

I've always wanted an athlon but there r no good hsf available in india. neither do dealers support athlon. there r reported heating problems as well

Anybody say anything about this? What do I do? Go for it?

I think it's a little pricey for what you get ( though I live in NZ and i know how expensive things are outside of the US)

That combo could be found in the US for $113 for the processor, $128 for the Board and $30 for the ram using price watch- total = $271 (+ shipping)

If you bought this setup you would actually have a moderately slow (by currently standards) system.

Personally i wouldn't look at a P4 at less than 1.7GHz, The Intel board is ok (though I would prefer to go 478 pin and get a TH7 II or a Intel D850MV). 2x 64 meg rambus rimms are pretty useless for future upgrading- go for 2 x 128s

Whatever you do - don't buy an Intel i845 SDram setup as the P4 really thrives off high memory bandwidth

What would you use the system for?

You think that's expensive.

Listen to this,

P4 1.4 + 128 mb rdram only was selling at $540 right near my house. The price I mentioned is at Coimbatore from where I'd have to bring it. My friends r all excited by the price.

Pricing in the US is an entirely different affair.

Any Indians out there to comment on the price?

If you absolutely have to go with an Intel system, don't go Socket 423. I speak from experience on this. I had an ASUS P4T with a P4 1.4GHz and 256MB RDRAM. I traded it for a Dual PIII rig and then traded that for Tbird rig. I am much happier with my Tbird, though it was less tedious to configure the P4 rig. Intel chipsets are nice when it comes to that.

If you are going P4, get a Socket 478 chip and wait till you can get a DDR mobo for it. That would be a sweet rig man. Just my $.02.
