Is it possible? Their service has been absolutely horrendous. We want out, but we're not about to pay $300 to cancel the contract on two phones.

You just have to be relentless with their customer service; become a broken record.

Not defending the phone company, but did you get your phones for free or very cheap? Think of it this way - It's as if you're paying $300 for both phones. You can sell the phones to recoup some of the penalty.

We can't sell the phones. Her's is only a year old and the casing cracked when she flipped it open. Mine is more than two years old and is kinda beat up...

Can I ask exactly how you did it? Did you say anything special?

The guys who work there are absolute tools. I've spoken with two supervisers on their customer service line already and they both have said exactly the same thing. Their service sucks and all they can say is "you can cancel your contract but we'll charge you a $150 fee per line". It would take me half an hour to list all the problems we've had with them.

So you've had the contract for quite a while? How many months left? Think of the $300 as the cost of the phones you've used. Or go as Corporate Recreation said- Give 'em hella!

I've been a customer of theirs for like 5 years now, she's had them for about 4. We merged our lines into a family plan and have had that for almost half a year. We still have about a year and a half of the agreement... Maybe I'll just "give 'em hell". I even went so far as to take down the supervisor's employee number and threaten to sue them. My fiancee works for the law firm that represented Clinton in his impeachment trial. Maybe that'll carry some weight. It's a little extreme, but I don't care :)

Currently a two year plan. We changed the plan a couple times and of course, to do so means that you have to renew their service agreement.

Edited for your edit: It's always sucked. However, she had Sprint too, so we didn't think much of it, then we started getting problems in our area when we moved. People would call and the phone wouldn't ring, yet we'd get a voicemail a minute later. We both finally decided we'd had enough of Sprint.

Regarding that problem, the supervisor I spoke with at their customer service line claimed it was a problem with the phones. I tried to explain that the phones were fine before we moved into the area, and now they're having issues (both phones). It's obvious the phones are OK. I even took mine into their shop to have updated. What are the chances that the same obscure problem would happen to both phones at exactly the same time...

Paying the termination fee is, unfortunately, a contractual obligation. You may be able to get out of it, but the company really has no incentive to throw you a bone since either way you won't be a customer any longer.

Most likely, you can either stay with them until your contract is up and switch providers or pay the termination fee to get out of your contract early. The fee was, after all, part of the service agreement you signed.

You're right... however, I don't feel I should be paying them a fee when they're not living up to their end of the agreement (providing satisfactory service). If you're paying for something, you should be satisfyed with what you're paying for.

Edit: I signed the agreement with the expectation that I'd receive satisfactory service. They haven't provided that.

There are rules concerning cell phone recpetion. Ask them to send somebody out to test the signal at your site. If they can't get a good singnal, then they have to let you out of the contract.

(I think).
