I got a jury duty notice the other day, but I no longer live in the county the notice is for. I moved on the 25th of last month. On the back it says that if you no longer live in that Court's jurisdiction, you can send a copy of a driver's license, DMV ID Card or utility bill. Problem is, I don't have any of those yet with my new address on it. The only thing I have with my name and new address on it is my cable bill, and I need to have this thing postmarked by today. Will a cable bill work in this situation?

should. If it does not, show up and make racist comments, or say something to the effect of "all people should be shot if i think they commit a crime" That should get you out.

May not, but give it a try. They would rather let you out of duty (even though you only have 10 days to change your DL info :Q ) than risk having the trial be ruined because you are not eligible to sit on it. You are a walking mistrial. LOL

It might be, but it's a bit out of my way now after my move.

Since you want to shun your civic duty, just say that you support the death penalty, that you listen to Rush Limbaugh, that all foreigners should be deported, and that you never pay child support. Do it in the biggest redneck accent you can come up with and you'll be ok.

Shun his civic duty? He doesn't live in that county anymore. It has mistrial written all over it and it will cost taxpayers more if they have to do the whole damn thing over again.

I got a jury summons a couple years ago but I was living outside the jurisdiction at the time. I think I just sent them a copy of my driver's license and that was it.

Why don't you just go to the DMV and change you address?

Problem solved.

My dad lived in PA for 30 years and never got called for jury duty. Moved to CA and got called 3 months after he moved.

I was asked to serve jury duty while out of the country. Had to send a letter informing them that although I had a PA license, if they looked close enough, it had an Australian address. (I was a student, and thus PA would still issue me a license, without a photo, and as long as I was on a valid student visa, I could legally drive in Australia on an American license - talk about a strange situation!)

Just go in and say "Hey it's really lucky you guys choose me, I can tell just by looking at someone if they are guilty!" ;)

(I don't get it...I'm 49 and have NEVER been called up. I kinda WANT to go at least once, just for the experience)

On a robbery trial, my friend just said he was a member of the NRA and a gun instructor (which he is). He got dismissed immediately.

I was called to jury duty a few years ago. Of the trials where my juror number was selected from the pool, I was dismissed every time. I think my long hair discouraged attorneys from selecting me. :)
