This happened a few days ago but I just recalled it today after seeing a FS/FT thread about airline credits.

I was scheduled for an 11oclock flight(Delta) but I arrived at 8 so I looked for a possibly earlier flight. I find a 9o'clock flight so I walk up to the people at the gate and ask if I could possibly make the flight since there were 3 open seats. They said I needed to pay a 50 dollar fee. Fuck that!

Now 2 hours later, when I'm getting on my plane, there is an announcement that my flight is overbooked. They're offering airline credits(500) for anyone who's willing to take the next day flight at 6am. If they had let me get on the 9'oclock flight, this would have never happened!

I got to the airport an hour early and went to go get my boarding pass. The guy asked if i wanted to upgrade to the nonstop flight for free *well $5 fee*. I got home at 7 rather than 11 pm.

they gambled and lost. they just as easily could have had a no show and been underbooked and been out nothing.

all the carries are in shitty shape and try to rip off a buck wherever they can

worst? goddamn check-in baggage fee. everyone is trying to avoid the fee so they carry their shit on the plane and delay take offs due to shuffling in the overhead
