My new computer parts are supposed to come in a couple of days, and I was wondering if theres anything i need to do to windows before I put in all my new stuff. My friend tells me I would most likely need to reinstall windows for new hardware, so it there anything I need to uninstall in the way of drivers or anything before I pop in the new hardware (mobo, cpue, vid card, and ram)? Or can I just do nothing at all to the drives and have the windows XP cd in the drive at startup?

Thanks in advance.

I've done this many times and most of the time the old hdd with system install will work by just plainly moving it into the new system. The worst that has happened so far is to do a Repair Installation. Another trick other people use is they remove the old drivers (Device Manager), shut down and then move the hdd to the new system which will do an auto detection.

I've found that reinstalling works for me. But, when I'm in Windows setup, I use the partiton that's already there and don't format it. Everything in the Windows folder is replaced and I get a fresh install, but some of my settings are there from last install, as is some of the programs, which makes it easier to set up the new installation. In some cases, however, the drive will need to be reformatted.
