Getting off generic Vicodin on my birthday

So yay, april 22nd, my birthday, I can't believe I made it to the big two-eight.

I had a bad wisdom tooth extracted (my last one thank god) 12 days ago now. I was prescribed Hydrocodone which is a generic for Vicodin ES. It was a tough one, oral surgeon said it was a 9.5/10 in terms of difficulty. It was impacted bad. They had to break up the tooth into 6 pieces and take out a bit of my jaw.

At first the Hydrocodone had no noticable effect, maybe it dulled the pain a bit. Later days it dulled it noticeably and I wasn't the best at focusing at work, but I wasn't loopy or anything.

So 2 days ago I stopped taking the Hydrocodone, and took my last bit of Advil. You're not supposed to take Advil for like more than 10 days straight.

I haven't been drinking any alcohol but want to drink for my birthday tonight. I'm not sure if coming off the Vicodin is making me ill, but I feel clamy and a bit sweaty. I also had diarrhea last night. I'm doing my best to eat right so I can eat drink and be merry tonight.

Has anyone had to come down off taking Vicodin for a week? what are the withdrawal symptoms? Also my tooth hole still hurts enough and that pain might be making me nauseous.

BTW, I don't do a damn thing for earth day since it's my birth day. I aint raking up shit.

Cliffs:

My Birthday!
Vicodin withdrawal sucks for me, how about for you?
I want to get drunk tonight, but feel iffy.
Post number 1,000 (took me long enough!)

Um, hydro + alcohol = you will be fvcked. I hope you're not driving because you're going to kill someone if you do.

Ooh... Vicodin and alcohol are a wonderful combination... mix those two (in reasonable quantities), and you'll be completely numb after surgery!

I used it for about a week as well after my motorcycle accident, and it look me a day or two to get used to not having it in my system after that.

Now, Oxycontin on the other hand... I just don't react well to that stuff. Gives me night sweats. Same with Codeine.

Being a narcotic, Vicodin can have some withdrawal symptoms. More likely though, you'd have a headache rather than feel overall flu-ey. Also, Vicodin and other narcotic pain pills often cause constipation, not so much the "runs". But everyone reacts a little differently. Did you get prescribed anti-biotics? You might want be sure that you're not getting an infection at the site.

yea the withdrawl symptoms sucks... you'll be sweaty, you feel like you don't want to do anything except lying in the bed. your joint would feel soreness, plus other nifty things your body would try to get you to take more.

It's part withdrawal, part just simply the rest of the achy feeling overwhelming your body's senses, and partly a mental imagination.

The runs could be from the advil - sometimes extended usage of pain pills, and depending on your food and water intake around the time of pill use, can lead to an upset stomach.

But also, as Gooberlx2 asked, were you put on antibiotics? That seems to be the common course when having wisdom teeth removed, due to it being a gaping wound in the mouth. The clammy and achy feeling could just be the body adjusting to not having pain medication, or it could be signs of an infection.

Alcohol won't be bad, but if you aren't feeling well, it might not exactly improve the situation. Since you aren't on the hydrocodone anymore, it wouldn't interact with it at all.
However, alcohol with hydrocodone isn't a terrible mix either. It might not be exactly friendly to the stomach and liver, but just a few times, I cannot imagine it any worse than the long-term stress of alcohol alone on the liver in a lifetime anyway. Daily hydrocodone and alcohol mixing, for months or longer, definitely isn't advised, but a handful of times when prescribed hydrocodone? Just don't go trying to do anything that requires real function. Definitely don't drive or do anything that could cause injury to you or others. But it'll sure make you feel realllllll good. ;)

I was taking antibiotics for like 11 days (penecillin) I have a refill for imoocillin, but I would hope that after 11 days of them, I wouldn't get any infection?

Just called the oral surgeon's office and it sounds like sweaty clamminess is vicodin withdrawal. Runs were probably from bad spaghettis sauce for lunch yesterday.

I took my antibiotics so I shouldn't have an infection, they believe it is withdrawal.

I never had a bad reaction when quiting hydrocodone. Stopping oxycodone abruptly though, makes me feel like poopoo.

It is very very unlikely that taking that low of a dose of hydro/apap for a week then stopping would have any "withdrawal" type effects. It is probably mostly related to the wisdom tooth removal. I remember mine being fairly rough as well and it takes the body a while to heal.

Im very wary of taking pain killers of any kind, even Aleve. I crushed my finger in a car door and fractured it. I was given Hydrocodone and enjoyed the "comfortably numb" feeling, but I wouldnt want to be dependent on it. Its just not worth it.

What you're feeling sounds exactly like somewhat mild opiate withdrawal symptoms. I'm a bit surprised you got them after only 10 days of taking the pills though. How many did you take a day? I'm guessing they were 5's or 7.5's.

The reason you shouldn't drink while on them isn't so much the hydrocodone, it's the OTC pain reliever with it (acetaminophen, etc) since the combination of that and alcohol can cause stomach and/or liver damage.

You'll be fine. Clamum's got it right. You might want to detox for a while though. You can always have a drink, you don't have to just cause it's your birthday. Some folks are more sensitive to opiates than others. I was hooked after a motorcycle accident and spent a really bad 3 or 4 days with the world's worst hangover before I got it out of my system but I was popping pills every 4 hours for 7 weeks straight.

you won't get withdrawals after a week of wisdom teeth dosage. you might get a slight heart elevation for 1-2hrs, but that's about it.
