Getting new wood floors

Getting some new wood floors in the house, what would be better? Bamboo vs Cherry?

But generically, I'd stick with bamboo as cherry is too dark. Too dark = too dead.

We plan on like getting the walls changed also, so that can be done. It's for the basement. Right now they put cherry on the bottom, but are planning on getting a more expensive thing on the top.

My parents don't really care about the cost, they just want the best. But if Bamboo is good, that sounds like a champ.

I figured as much, but couldn't remember how much the cherry was going for the last time I looked at flooring.

Depends if he's going for a rustic look. Cherry would be more durable (harder wood = more scratch resistant). Bamboo is not harder- it's just easier to repair (and you'll be doing a lot of that. I was sanding our damned floor all the time :| ).

Depends if he's going for a rustic look. Cherry would be more durable (harder wood = more scratch resistant). Bamboo is not harder- it's just easier to repair (and you'll be doing a lot of that. I was sanding our damned floor all the time :| ).

hmmm. is bamboo really that soft?

Not AFAIK. They wouldn't offer a 15 year warranty on it if it were that fragile.

if you going with cherry, make sure you are getting brazilian cherry, as it is a lot harder than regular cherry, regular cherry is soft!

I'd go with bamboo, since that is one of the types of flooring that we were looking at for our kitchen. 😛

Where are you located?

One of the larger flooring stores here in Phoenix, AZ stopped selling bamboo. My wife and I were going to get bamboo until we talked to a sales rep. We went in for pricing, and he immediately told us that they are no longer selling bamboo because of warping. He showed us the sample floor they put down in the showroom and it was warped badly. I guess the climate here isn't too condusive to bamboo flooring.

Isn't that just semantics though? The very article you linked to was quite enthusiastic about bamboo. It could be a damn flower; what does it matter if it works well?

Cherry for sure.
If you get the bamboo one, you'll have to spend your entire life time there fixing and replacing the floor, not to mention how it gets stained so easy. (Bamboo is only good as a mat, not for the floor).
DO NOT GET BAMOO.
