Getting new prescription glasses...

Gonna be picking up some new prescription glasses later this week, and thanks to a few "connections", I'm able to get a 30% discount on Oakley frames.

I've never used oakley frames before; though I did have a pair of C-wires a long time ago. They were decent, but I wasn't overly impressed with them.

I was thinking of picking up these. Has anyone used them before?

I tried them on yesterday and they were comfortable. Im mainly concerned with the grip though, seems with normal wear, it would be really easy for them to slip off whenever I looked down (A big problem with the C-wires i had).

A friend of mine owns an eyeglass store, been in the business for 20 years, and he has always claimed that Oakleys are pure crap. You are just paying for the name.

Oakley lenses beat EVERY single lense out there in all the big tests...

I had a pair of A wires that I had presecripted lenses in, loved them. Got prescripted sunglass lenses in them later as I now wear Why3's.

The place your buying them should be able to adjust/ bend the arms of the frames so it fits you properly. Mine fit great. They would come off when I summersault but my Armani ones don't as they fit much tighter as the arms have hooks that go behind my ears like more traditional frames.

I've had Oakley prescription sunglasses for about the last 8 years -- got a new pair 2 years ago when my prescription changed, and liked them so much that I bought a pair of regular glasses in Oakley frames. The optics in the sunglasses are so great, I'm so spoiled by them that I hardly want to go outside without them even if only for a brief period. Wish I knew the model # of the regular glasses but they look similar to those in the link..

All 3 frames I've had have held up well, and while I try to take good care of them, I'm not exactly easy on them, either..

Forget about brand and get what compliments your face, feels comfortable, and gives you an acceptable range of vision. While the fashion of smaller lenses is nice, because they're lighter, it's also annoying because it's more restrictive. I have worn glasses for 25 years, and never purchased based on brand. I've had cheap and I've had expensive. If you get wire frames of any sort, make sure they have a spring hinge so they don't come loose over time -- that's when they fall off and slip down a lot more.

I do have Oakley sunglasses, and I like them a lot. I have a small face/head though, so I've never been a fan of their glasses.

Those look like almost the same glasses I just bought last month (mine are Jackknife). I also got prescription sunglasses - Whisker frames (expensive 😱 ).

I thought the ear support gripping against my head might be uncomfortable compared to regular glasses, but if adjusted properly they work fine. They stay on my head just as well, or perhaps even better, than conventional frames and they don't pinch my ears or head.

And your friend would be an idiot. Their frames, lenses and warranty are great. And yes, I have a friend who owns an eyestore too.

OP - my last two frames have been Oakleys and I love them. I recently got Intervene 2.0s with Zeiss lenses.

Oakley frames have held up to abuse where other frames have broken. I also love their fit and have found that they don't slip when you look down. However, a lot could have to do with your face(being too narrow) if you had issues with your c-wires.

I have those exact frames that I picked up from Lenscrafters and I really like them. It took me 2-3 weeks though to get used to the straight part over by ear, instead of the rounded part. Also the frames were a bit bigger than my usual Ray Bans so wearing a hat w/ them took a little working in. But overall, yeah great frames! My problem w/ LensCrafters now is their lenses. While I love their antireflective coating and all that crap, it seems to start to come off in tiny spots after about 7-12 months. Sucks when you're forking out $400-$500 for a pair of glasses. Of course they tell you, hey no problem we'll give you 50% off if they wear within a year. I don't want 50% off... I want them replaced free. This shouldn't happen unless you are very rough w/ your lenses and I'm very careful with mine. I don't play sports, don't clean them w/ anything but the solution that they gave me. Bottom line is... I love their frames, but am not happy w/ the quality of their lenses w/ full protection. Prices are a tad high too. Pick up your Oakley's elsewhere if you can.

Does he buy eyes in bulk? Just asking, I might know where to get some.

I have prescription lenses that my eye doctor had made in my Oakley X-Metal Juliet's. His lens maker was able to reproduce the flash mirror of the factory lenses perfectly.
