Getting new phone. Need Your Knowledge

Currently I have an IPhone 3G.

I will be getting a new phone, most likely either:

1. IPhone 4
2. Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate)

I don't have a home phone. I use my cell phone. I browse the internet a lot with it at work when I'm bored. I'd likely use it to stream music over bluetooth in my car. May use as day planner too if it is a quality easy to use one since I'm super important.

Now, first off, I don't care about whether you "like" something or not. So please no "IPhone Sux gets Android" pointless posts. Post WHY. That will count against that choice.

All I want to know, what can I do with Android that I can't do with IOS?

All I can find on the internet is Android can do flash, and customize some how it looks, and be rooted and install custom roms, which I don't exactly know the reason for. I also hear "it's more customizable!" but I want to know WHAT is customizable? Does rooting void warranty? Can you un-root?

Lay it out, what big features on Android would sway me that way? I know IOS 4.1 already since it's on my 3G. I'll look at both in store before deciding, but want as much info as possible before hand. I'm probably 50/50 currently on either phone. Both cost the same.

AT&T's Android options are fairly weak, so your choices for Android there are more limited. I'm not familiar with the ROMs for the Galaxy S phones, personally, most source built versions seem to be delayed because of Samsung's kooky file system. There's several customized versions of the stock rom, with OCing as well.

Since you want to use it as a phone, I'd lean towards the Captivate, it won't drop signal when you hold it to your ear.

Also, for web browsing, because Android supports more web APIs, you'll be able to experience the full Internet, not merely the walled garden.

Rooting normally does void the warranty, though it most cases you can unroot and restore the stock ROM, and nobody's the wiser.

If they cost the same for you then its a no brainer, get the IP4.
For the fact that you've been using a 3G.
The IP4 is a 100x improvement over the 3G.

the question is: Do you like iTunes?

You already stated that you don't care about the main things Android offers, the only thing left is that it doesn't rely on iTunes.
