Getting new contacts online

I'm on my last set of monthly disposable contacts. I got this box through my optometrist a little less than a year ago. The perscription still seems good, and I see no reason to have to go in and pay $200 out of pocket for an exam again. Might as well get it when my next box runs out and I might have optical in my insurance.

On the sites on which I can order, they require a perscription and/or the fax number and phone number and info for my doctor. Is this universal and there's no way around it? Any way I can just get more of the contacts I have without getting a perscription? I haven't been able to get in touch with my optomitrist, but he is very hands-on and I'm sure he'll ask me to come in for an exam instead.

Thanks for the info.

As an aside, why do they require a perscription? It's not like it's controlled medication...

they need a prescription because contacts are like some hats: they aren't "one size fits all"

not that I know of...

Your script is less than a year, so it should still be good. buy now, then go in a year from now.

You'll want to wear contacts for your follow up anyways. Just ask them to fax the script to you. If they don't demand that they do (assuming it is in fact less than a year old.).

But if I know my size, what does it matter that I don't have a piece of paper to prove it?

That argument doesn't hold water to me. If you're too stupid to order contacts without knowing the perscription, you deserve to waste your money.

And Home, I don't have the physical perscription. I guess I'll have to sort it out somehow, or just make the order and have them sort it out with the Dr. office?

I'm not aware of any sites that still do it, I think it may be law now. I used to be able to order it off a legitimate site but they started requiring a prescription a few years back. Just order 6 months worth right before you prescription expires. BTW, I pay $65 for an eye exam. If you're willing to commit fraud I'm sure you could fake the prescription and fax it in.
