Only have to get 3 out of 4 removed since I had another tooth removed that is replaced by a wisdom tooth.

They are going to give me gas or something, will it put me to sleep, or will I just relax?

I'm not too nervous.:cookie:

It doesn't always hurt, I had my upper 2 removed and didn't have any problems. No pain, no bruising.

Just had mine out about two months ago. They offered IV general anethesia or NOX. Wasn't even a question - I didn't want to be there for that at all, not even off in NOX induced lala land. The general option was highly reccomended by the oral surgeon as well - I'm sure he'd rather deal with you out cold as well :p

The day of the surgery is the easiest. Completly numbed up with novacaine. Stock up on soup, pudding, applesauce, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. You'll need it for a few days.

Yep. I had two teeth taken out that way. NEVER AGAIN.

I made them knock me out with the good drugs before I had my wisdom teeth taken out.

It depends how impacted your wisdom teeth are. You may just get a local needle to freeze the area. They may use gas or a needle to put you out.

I would say on average 4-5 days before eating hard, crunchy food like an apple.

for some reason they put me under. so i guess that it could be a good thing or a bad thing. at any rate, don't hit on the dental assistant.

I remember having a root canal on just local anesthesia, I got to listen to them grind and suck, and my lips felt enormous. I still got all my wisdom teeth, thus I'm wiser

It doesn't hurt because you don't feel anything. You'll be able to eat normal food the next day. Stop being a wuss :p

I was on soft food for about a week. Stayed away from stuff like nuts, apples, popcorn for about 2-3 weeks. You end up with these craters at the back of your jaw for a month or so, and stuff gets stuck in there, which is a nuisance.

Overall the pain wasn't *to* bad if you kept up with the meds ... just a high level of general discomfort and nuisance.

I had mine out about 6 months ago. I was put into the relaxed state (three options, totally out, somewhat sedated, and something else. I was somewhat sedated). I NEVER felt a thing. I did not feel any pain until about 6 hours later. I did have pain for about 2 weeks after, but that was unusual from what I hear.

I was complete out for my removal also.
You could feel the drugs moving through your arm, cold feeling. I think they had me count backwards, "99,98,97.." out. Next thing I remember is them helping me out of the chair and me asking if it was over.

Didn't hurt until mine got infected a month later...I think it healed over top a piece of food. Oh ya and don't drink carbonated beverages, they will give you dry sockets. The surgeon told my friend this after it happened to him.

Try to get IV sedation. Apparently you are still awake...but I had it and could not remember a single thing and it felt soo cool as it was kicking. Also get extra drugs for the pain, they are good

Yep forgot about the carbonated beverage bit.
Also, pick up some tea bags. They had me bite one of those the second day when the bleeding wouldn't stop. Worked great

Get the drugs that make you go to sleep! I was awake during mine (numbed, but awake) and it was one of the most excrutiating experiences of my life...seriously, just fall asleep

I had gas when I had my four removed. Yes you are awake and responsive, to make it easier for them. However, you're not "aware" of anything going on....it'll feel like you were asleep because you won't remember any of it....atleast I didn't. I was also kinda woozy/high for several hours afterwards.

The recovery time depends on the person. I had some serious chipmunk-cheeks for two weeks, though I could tenderly eat hard foods again within 5-or-so days after the surgery. My chipmunk-cheeks were due to infection/puss in the sockets that resulted from two of my teeth that were impacted/broke during removal...but atleast I didn't get dry-sockets, which is much more painful. I've also known people who didn't get any swelling at all.

Sleeeeeep.... sleeeeeeeep!

Had all 4 removed at once (all impacted)... rather stitch my dangling-by-a-thread-toe-back-to-my-foot again rather than go through the hell that was the 5 days after having my wisdom teeth pulled.

Nitrus Oxide works as an anti-anxiety agent. It will not knock you out but it has been my experience that many patients fall asleep (which isn't a good thing, we don't want sedated patients to fall asleep). If you are not to nervouse everything should be fine. If you are not going under general then your dentist/oral surgeon must believe that they will be easy extractions. You will feel quite a bit of pressure as it takes some to extract teeth but under no circumstance should you feel pain during the procedure. If these are indeed easy extractions post-op pain shouldn't be all that bad and your dentist will probably give you 800mg motrin (ibprofen). The pain will be its greatest (if at all) during the first 24 hours and then subside from there. Everyone reacts different so its hard to say. I was out for a week but others go right back to work. I hope you experience the latter. PM if you have anymore specific questions that you want answered. As always make sure you have no doubts before the procedure. If you do not know what is going on then you need to ask more questions of your dentist. That is their/our job/s.

Hope all goes well. And remember to follow the dentist's post op instructions. Don't make a suction in your mouth (ie smoking, straw), no carbonated beverages, no heavy exercise for 2-3 days, contact dentist if bleeding dosen't stop. Use common sense and keep the extraction sites as clean as you can.

A tip for the swelling ... my Dr. had me take 800mg ibuprofen the night before the surgery, and then the morning of the surgery, then alternate that with the vicoden or extra strength tylonol after. My swelling wasn't to bad overall.

If you do take 800 mg of ibuprofen make sure to tell your dentist. It can change some things.
