Getting my TV repaired

pontifex

Lifer
According to Philips, my TV is under warranty. I called the local repair shop today and they checked and said it was out of warranty. The guy told me I can call Philips back and see if they will send some kind of "still under warranty" notice to them.

If not, for in home repair, it will cost $85 + tax just to get the tech to my house. If he can repair it on the 1st trip, it will cost another $150 + tax. If they can't repair on 1st trip and need to order parts and come back, it will cost the $85 + tax + the cost of the parts. They will call before ordering parts to give me the extra cost and make sure I still want to go through with it.

I paid about $365 for the TV.

I'm just wondering if Philips doesn't tell them its still under warranty if it would be worth it to have it fixed? I doubt I could sell it since it doesn't always work reliably.

i wouldn't pay $150 to fix an old $365 TV

how old is it?

if it is out of warranty, i would probably buy a new one, from costco

a little less than 3 months old. It was a refurb from the Philips outlet.

If i did buy a new one, i don't know how or where to get rid of the old one.

It works fine except it doesn't always turn on. I think something is loose because I can move the TV around a bit and then it will turn on. Sometimes it takes a good amount of moving to get it to turn on though.

so just under 90 days then... which is how long MOST refurb warranties are.. 90 days, id be on the phone with philips right now if i were you. get movin quick. tell them to fax them something showing warranty status

can't until i get home

what sucks is the repair place closes at 5:30 which is about the time I get home, so they won't get the fax until tomorrow. I've been calling the stupid place all last week but every time they are closed and they aren't open on weekends apparently.

I called them on my lunch break today, thats the only way i could get through.

called Philips last night.

they said my warranty ran out on 2/25 but yet the notes say its still under warranty. i don't get how that happens but I've had the TV for less than 90 days. They checked and they will honor the warranty yet so they are faxing proof to the TV repair shop.

So hopefully I can finally get this taken care of.
