So I just completed a new build, specs in my sig.

the motherboard is the asus M4a79XTD-EVo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-402-_-Product

RAM is Corsair dominator 4gb DDR3 1600 PC31280
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-265-_-Product

In cpu z with setting on auto here is what it shows
memory bandwitdh: 666.7mhz
FSBDram 3:10
Cl 9
tRCD 9
tRP 9
tRAS 24
tRC 34
Command Rate 1T

should i manually change in the bios the timings to 8 8 8 24 mhz to 1600 and voltage to 1.65?

Should i leave voltage on auto?

I just want my ram to run at 800 mhz dual 1600

thanks!

Did you manually set voltage to 1.65v?

AUTO does not apply correct voltage for RAM.

Also, i might suggest just trying 2T for now until you get things stable.

Run Memtest86+ to check for errors.

thanks, I set the voltage to 1.66, when i type in 1.65 it changes it automatically to 1.66
Also I just set the command rate to 2T, so far so good. This ram is made for INtel chips but im running a phenom, i bought it because it can still work in amd motherboards and it was on sale for 90, i couldnt pass it up. Could that be the problem, its made for I7s and I5s?

So far so good with 2T and 1.66v 8-8-8-24-41

Somewhat.

If it's designed primary for i5/i7, that doesn't mean it won't work in AMD systems, but if they've not tested it for them as much, or at all, some of the timings might have to be slightly loosened, etc.

Intel doesn't technically have a 1T command rate, they have what i've say is more correctly termed as 1N, at least from anandtech's articles.

Running actual 1T is quite hard on things comparably, which might be why it does not do 1T stably for you.

Thanks.

Running Memtest now, how do i read the results, just go by errors?

Yeah just let it run for a while.
You should never get any errors.

v4.00 does the first pass quickly as a quick check.

If you cannot tie up that PC for a few hours now, i'd suggest running it overnight, as one or two passes isn't really enough.

Also, is it alright to have my sticks in dimms 3 and 4 instead of 1 and 2?
Dimms 1 and 2 are a bit close to the CPU, Thanks.

I assume it is still running in dual channel (you can see this in the CPU-Z memory tab)?

If so, that's just fine.

HD 4890 is great...it replaced a GTX 280 that had never-ending nV driver issues.

Yes, dual channel. Yeah so far I love the 4890, got it running cool with a plethora of fans.

memtest, 2 passes no errors so far.
