Getting my first LCD. BUT WHAT ONE?!

finally have enough cash for an LCD, but what one should i get?
i don?t have the desk space for a big crt, so don?t recommend that I get one.

alright:
im looking in the $280-$320 range. i play a lot of FP shooters so response time is important as well as bright colour. plus i want it to be DVI.

i was looking at the samsung 940BF, but recent reviews have said its the not the best LCD in the price range and to keep looking.

suggestions anyone?

I have a Viewsonic VX2025WM, you should be able to pick one up for around $350 or less if you find a good deal. I've had one for about two weeks now and love it, I play alot of FPS's too and there are no ghosting issues or anything like that, plus widescreen gaming is the the way forward.

Here's a link to newegg, going for $329, although I wouldn't actually purchase an LCD from newegg I think, though I may be wrong, that their returns policy regarding LCDs and dead pixels is that you have to have at least 8 dead one's for them to replace your monitor. I may be wrong though, someone can correct me if so.

I think Samsung's make excellent LCDs. I have 3.
The 2 ms is great for gaming.
I wouldn't put too much stock in NCIX online comments.
If I believed them, I wouldn't have bought my Seasonic S-12 600W.

I own the Samsung 940B monitor. Its awesome! I've played Quake 4, Oblivion, WoW, BF2, UT04 & never seen any ghosting. Image quality is top notch and leaves nothing missing. BTW, i've NOT had even one dead/hot pixel. I guarantee you'll be happy with the 940b.

I wouldn't guarantee anything that's so dependent on the individual. But I also have a 940B and think it's a fine monitor.

howard or mogadon, if you get this or anyone that owns the viewsonic VX2025WM, how is it? how is it compared to dell 2001, 2005, 2007? whats all that light coming from the corners i hear about it? does it come with every monitor? i like to watch dvd's and play cs:s most. does anyone know if cs:s supports 1680 x 1024?

thanks for the 2 reviews.. anyone at AT have this monitor? how does 20.1 WS affect gaming? will i see more area in games? or just wider objects?

Seeing more would be like cheating 😀. My guess is if the game supports it you might but for the most part my guess is everything will just get a bit wider. My BenQ FP91G+ should get here tomorrow I'll give my opinion on it.

It will be my first LCD so unless it is defective I am sure I will review it good 😀.

This thread on hard forums, which Howard also linked to, will answer all of your questions and some about the VX2025WM. The thread is over fifty pages and totally dedicated to this monitor.

My personal experience with the VX2025WM is awesome. I haven't got one of the Dells to compare it to but many if the people posting in the thread linked above have owned both and prefer the Viewsonic. There are few cons to it, the main ones being the lack of height adjustment and the back lighting when displaying black, personally I haven't noticed this as being a problem except when you're displaying a totally black screen, ie. a blank screensaver. Have had no problems with light coming from the corners.

Gaming is awesome, I love the widescreen experience. If the games supports the 1680x1050 resolution then you are actually seeing a wider screen, CS:S does and almost every new game these days does to. If it doesn't support it then the picture is just widened but you have to be pretty anal to be that bothered with it, to me it's fine.

This is the first LCD i've owned so have little to compare it to, I have friends with different LCDs and I can truthfully say i'd rather have this over the ones they have, and the ones they have aren't crappy either.

Your best resource for information regarding this monitor though is that hard forums thread, there's guys posting on there that have owned a multitude of different LCDs so they have a lot of experience in that area.

wow this VX2025WM looks awesome
but its an extra 90 bucks for me....only one place in canada sells it 🙁
