OOK, so I have an LG Env2, and the usb cable to connect it to my computer. The computer recognizes it, and the phone recognizes that it's connected to the computer. The problem I have is that after it recognizes it...nothing happens. Like when I click on 'my computer' there's no listing for the phone. If I have videos and stuff that I want to get off the phone and onto my computer, and the videos are too large to send via message, how do I do it? I bought the cable for this purpose, but I see no way to get the computer to give me an icon to access the phone

My old Env didn't show up as a mass storage device, you needed a program like BitPim to actually do anything with the data on it.

So basically they let you record videos that are too large to get off the phone via message, knowing you'll need a third party program (or micro SD) to get it off? Weird

Yea, pretty much. They sell a data access pack with software called Motorola Phone Tools which does it but there is other software available as well.

Not working. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARG. This is really pissing me off. I installed the Verizon Easy Access Manager, it can't detect any phone. I installed bit PIM, it can't detect any phone. The computer itself acknowledges that something is connected to the computer, but that doesn't help.

I don't know about the Env2 but the original Env pretty much "just worked" with BitPim as long as you knew which serial port it emulated when you plugged it in.

it won't let me select anything other than COM for port type...I've got it in a USB port if that matters. Do I need drivers for the USB cable I'm using?

Serial over USB is standard, it shouldn't require any drivers. I was doing all of this on Linux though, I have no idea what hoops you may have to jump through in Windows.

I was always pulling my memory card out of the Env2. It was such a hassle. Now with my android phone I just send files straight to my gmail account. Its easy, relatively fast and I can access them anywhere.
Ditto for the reverse direction. When the 2.1 update came out it automatically hooked in to my Picasa albums and made thumbnails for me right on the phone.

Nokias are a little easier too. They come with all the stuff you need to either access the phone directly as a removable drive, or auto-sync with their special software (which works great once you get it installed and set up properly).

Sorry about the LG. Theres a reason why I gave up on them long ago. Too many difficulties. And the proprietary Verizon OS does not help at all.

It's not Verizon's OS, they do lock their phones down more than other carriers but they don't develop the hardware or the software.

This is really starting to fuckin piss me off

Try this with BitPim ( I had to do it with my Moto Razor...

Look for the driver used to charge via the USB Port and install that driver then use BitPim and see if that works. I still had to change the Serial Port setting ( I know it is USB, but do it anyway ) to all that were listed until it saw the phone.
